cannot get broadband connection with windows 2000?
hi all any ideas windows 2000 professional
connect to broadband as normal no problem opens on home page when
i type in any other address i get unable to connect page
wont even go back to home page .i have to re boot PC
any thing simple before i ring helpline

Could be a proxy problem at your service providers end, not sure though.
one of the tech heads should be able to answer it soon

First thing I’d check is to see whether your machine is infected with Spyware and/or viruses. Sounds like a browser hijack to me.
Try typing in the following IP address in the address field to determine if the IP will route:
What happens? May be a DNS problem, but I suspect it may be a hijack.
Spybot, Highjackthis and Adaware are 3 good utilities to remove spyware.

I don’t know for sure but did you download any updates Service pack 2 for XP can give this problem with a DNS error couldn’t find server on some systems and the fix for that was to uninstall it and select repair instead of uninstall. So I have been told.
Don’t know if it affects 2000 though.

hi again it looks as if it is down to Norton!
i ran spy-bot and ad-aware cheers Trev b found them on nethomeelp
and they found loads of stuff
so rebooted and within seconds it was away again this is with norton switched on with updates current
ran spybot etc again to clean up tried switching norton off
and everything started fine email ok www ok no problems
ran spybot and adaware both clean and found nothing
so turned norton back on once again within seconds it all went belly up
i have pc-cillin on my no1 pc and it seems ok
i am in the process of trying to network everything together
and get them all up to date
i have a 4 port adsl router with built in firewall which i am told should help
