1520CC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😮 😮 Blimey John, thats an engine and a half! 😮
Superb bike though, as Andy says, a real monster of one! Is it a standard bike, ie factory built, or have you had it customised? And I bet all that chrome takes a bit of polishing, now we know why you just stick to vans, you spend the rest of your time in the garage with a tube of Autosol 😉
Thank you for showing though 😀
Cheers, Dewi

Morning Dewi.
It’s a standard Honda F6C Valkyrie and, with the exception of the brackets to fix the luggage when on tour, is exactly as it came out of the box. The flat six engine is turbine smooth and there is no way I could go back to a V twin now. Every one of my friends who has ridden it was so impressed that they immediately went out and bought one and would not now dream of selling. The only exception was my mate Eric who had to sell his when he emigrated to Florida but the first thing he did when his feet hit the shores of the New World was to head for the nearest Honda dealer and place an order. 😀
Why Honda stopped making them two years ago nobody can understand because they had a strong following and there is nothing like it for a replacement.
As I said, that is my small bike. My second favourite is my Gold Wing which I use when the wife is coming along because she prefers the rear seat on that. That one is 1832cc
I am struggling to appreciate the looks, but one bike which is attracting my attention at the moment is the Tiumph Rocket 3. That weighs in at an imoressive 2.3 litre. http://www.triumph.co.uk/uk/263.aspx
-
I know what you mean with the Rocket, alot of bikes look like that at the moment. At first glance it could be a BMW, or even a Harley, they all have models that are similar to that. A 2.3 litre engine on a bike though, thats mental! 😮 I’ve been pricing up for an old Honda 750, even thats a big bike for me! 🙄
Do you go touring on the bike John or are you enjoying weekend warrior status atm? 😉 There’s plenty of meets this summer, doubt I’ll be invited though as I’m putting another wheel on mine and joining the trike brigade 😀 Be fun to ride around on, but compared to your collection, it wouldn’t pull you out of bed, let alone to a meet :lol1:
Cheers, Dewi

didnt know the salvation army had young recruits?
where do i sign up? :lol1: -

Weekend Warrior indeed! Dewi, you really know how to hurt somebody don’t you? 🙂
To be fair, from the pictures, you might draw that conclusion because I wouldn’t take the Valk out in bad weather – the effect of salt on all that chrome doesn’t bear thinking about – but that’s a reason why I have more than one bike. 🙂
Up until about ten years ago your description would have fitted as I was doing about two thousand miles a year and tucking the bike away for the winter. However, the older I get the dafter I get, even to the extent of buying a bike for winter use, and have got to the point where I did about twelve thousand miles on bikes last year and about eighteen thousand the year before. So far my tally in 2005 is something over a thousand in Florida and two hundred here so I am off to a good start.
An average year consists of one fortnight cruising France and/or Spain, three or four long weekends to Normandy as well as plenty of stuff in this country. On top of that I now go to the US as often as possible and do what I can there. This September we are looking to go from Orlando, blat up to Washington, cruise down the Blue Ridge Parkway to Tennessee and then return to Orlando.
This type of riding is what I like doing and dictates to a certain extent the bikes I ride. I would not consider a crotch-rocket or a even a Harley Davidson, both of which, as far as I can see, are fun for about forty miles. I wouldn’t knock those things though because a lot of people enjoy that type of riding. It’s just not for me.
Don’t be apologetic about the CB750. It’s a good bike. You are a young lad, and although I don’t know your circumstances, I would guess that you have many other commitments, priorites and demands on any spare cash. Well, we’ve all been there and it was only with advancing age and prosperity that I could afford the more expensive bikes. These days my business is established, our kids have left home, the mortgage was paid off years ago, so I can afford the odd toy now and again. I am happily reaping the reward for all those years of long hours and hard work and I am not ashamed of it. Your turn will come, and you will be able to visit me in the old folks home and regale me with tales of your two-wheeled exploits.
Finally, buy the CB750, join the Honda Owners Club and enjoy some good riding and great company. We leave for the Dordogne on the 22nd of April. Can you be ready by then?

dex….
You might be surprised. The Valk does wheelie rather well. I did it accidentally once, not long after I had bought it, and the wife was NOT impressed! 😀
I read an article, in Motorcycle News I think, not long after the Valk came, out about some nutter who had got one round the TT course with an average speed just under three figures – ninety eight point something as I recall. I doubt that it was on the standard doughnut tyres though.
Now, in my opinion, the GL1800 Wing handles much better than the Valk, to be expected as it is a newer design, so I reckon that in the right hands it ought to be able to break through the magic one hundred average with ease. My question is – where can we find somebody good enough and mad enough to try it? 😀

manx gp 2000 i had also ran a fireblade in the production race at the TT
which allowed you to still compete at the manx gp
2001 foot and mouth 2002 ouch! i had 4 bikes for the TT 400 yamaha 600 honda cbr honda fireblade for the production and an R1 yam for the formula 1
everything going well till monday night practice second lap on the fireblade going through bedstead corner towards the end of the lap
and the bike jumped out of gear i went straight on through stone wall
lined with hedges and the rest is history
i raced in 2003 at the northwest 200 on a suzuki gixer 1000
but struggled to hold onto the bike due to my TT injuries
decided then i wasnt strong enough to handle the big bikes which now average 160-180 bhp at 170 kg
i raced again at the end of 2004 at my favorite olivers mount. scarborough
i have loads of short vidio clips if anyone is interested
it is through the bikes i started my business i now do mostly race bike and van graphics
anybody interested in pure road racing check out

I’m a cheeky bugger aren’t I! :lol1:
It could take a little while before I have a road worthy vehicle 🙄 I’ve got some insane ideas, one of which is replacing the existing fork legs with Kawasaki crosser legs 😀 I’ll end up with a hybrid bike with the axle from a Robin Reliant driving the back wheels 😮 At least 20% of the trike will be custom-made parts, whilst the rest is being bodged together with odds and sods from other vehicles (I hasten to add, I’m not assembling all the parts myself, I may be nuts but I’m not that nuts, I’ll stick to sensible things like polishing and painting 😀 ) But once its all done (should imagine I’ll have it something like by summer) I’m hoping to be able to ride it most days, although I may have to add another seat if I want to use it for the morning school run :lol1:
Sounds like you do a fair bit of travelling on the bikes though John. Does it work out cheaper, fuel wise, with the bigger engined bikes? I’ve seen quite a few Goldwings riding around recently, as well as some really noisy Harley replicas. Seems to be more and more ppl jumping onto bikes 😮
Cheers, Dewi
-
Here’s a little trike – probably not as flash as yours will be Dewi! It’s built from a couple of CX500’s. My friend got it, she rode it once and didn’t like it so we messed about on it on summer days. Nieces and nephews loved it. Was good fun – as long as you didn’t plan on travelling many miles as not the most comfortable.
-
Does it work out cheaper? Who cares? 🙂
From both the Valk and the GoldWing I can get about fifty to the gallon if I am in relaxed mode. The trouble is I can’t resist the surge of power when I twist the throttle so it’s usually more like forty.
-
quote Debbee:Here’s a little trike – probably not as flash as yours will be
In comparison, mine will probably look like it was built by a one-armed blindman, a real mish mash of parts and ideas :lol1: Thats a tidy trike though, I love the bench seat at the back! The trike below is the one my friend is building, he’s been working on it for quite a while. VW engine and rear axle with a custom frame and forks. The trike is alot closer to being finished now, I’m due another visit to get more piccies 😀 My claim to fame is I took five layers of paint off the tank, resurrecting it 😀
John, reason I asked was I want to travel about a bit, but I figure I’ll only have a diddy engine, if a bigger engine ment it’d be cheaper, I’d grab a bigger engine 😀 (I’m just a cheap skate really, just want to travel about for nowt :lol1: )
Cheers, Dewi

i have watched the road race review 2004 over and over my mate dave bell is hopeing to do a few of the pure irish road races which do you think are the best. i will be doing scarborough i might have a zx6 to ride as a
tribute to ian watson if not the zx6 an old cbr 600 to be honest i would ride a c90 around
are you riding this year what is your involvement in the sign industry
all the best
dex -
I’ve only started in the sign industry, really through bikes like yourself.
The best races over here for me are the Tandragee, it has everything and kells for all the jumps!! 😮 and the North west for the atmosphere. Guy is a talent, I know him well, actually rode his old 600 last year and I know his team mate Darran very well and victor showed me the ropes at the southern 100. Dont know If I will have a ride for this year just have to wait and see.
all the best#97

Blimey, I’m reviving a bit of an old thread here, but I noticed John mentioned an interest in Triumphs. So I thought I’d point out that a new Triumph place has just opened in Wellingborough.
Press release here:
http://www.northamptontoday.co.uk/ViewA … eID=958837
Bit of a bummer, I used to get the Mazda serviced there, now I have to go to bleedin’ Northampton!
-
Thanks for that Andy. I’ll call in and have a look one day. They might just make it pay as there is quite a strong Triumph Club in their area to provide them with customers.
I’ve decided against a Triumph and ordered a new GoldWing. It’s coming from the US where they are about half price and the container should hopefully be arriving mid to late April. 😀
Roll on summer.
