There are far too many officials living off the taxpayers money paid by our government and local councils to go poking their noses in to everyone else’s business. They should get a real job the b*stards.
-
quite agree.
why don`t they go round visiting all the villians etc.
spend the money on bobbies on the beat, and catch some real criminals. instead of picking on the motorist all the time.

If they submitted all their personal details to the DVLA and filled in the occupation box as ‘criminal’ they probably would 😕 Mind you, there would have to be a disclaimer box to sign, as infringing ppls rights just won’t do! Jolly bad sport to arrest someone for being a criminal, especially if they can’t be caught red handed 😳
Interestingly though, whilst I’ve been typing this, I’ve had a phone call about a number plate. The gent wanted to know what ‘other’ types of plates I could make and how far I was willing to steer from the legal plates 😮 I’m more than happy to make them up if he can bring proof of identity and is accompanied by both his paternal and maternal great grandparents as proof of his heritage 🙄

Maybe I’ve missed this one but,
Chris, could you enlighten us as to No Plate Police ?
Would this be the DVLA by any chance or the actual Police ?
Tell me more !Ian

No Plate Police = Number Plate Enforcement Officer, a representative from the Crime Reduction Group within the DVLA.

Ok, as a potential lawbreaker………
As you know, no self respecting biker has legal plates so I have made some for my own bikes from 6mm acrylic with flame polished edges.Nice designs – simple, but they carry a lovely message. What I need to finish them though is the reflective yellow with the adhesive on the front.
My question is, can anybody supply me with enough yellow to make three square plates of nowhere near the legal size? I would be pleased to buy a metre or more of the stuff so that I have some in stock for the future.
I don’t want anybody to break the law by making illegal plates, I’m quite happy to do that myself, but I do need the material. 🙂

if you mean the adhesive is on the yellow side then no problem, i will send you enough to fit.
if you email me your details i will post to you on Monday.

Yup, still got it Dewi. It’s my favourite bike and probably the one I’ll be buried with. Although obviously I will need to speak to our vicar first. 😀
Anyway, here’s another pic for you………

long johnJohn, I am interested to know who makes a reflective yellow that you can apply in reverse, or am I missing something here? 😕

hi Shane,
i used to make No Plates, but now the law here has changed i just make show plates.
all vinyl manufactures make the reflective tape with the adhesive on the back or the front.
the norm is on the front (coloured side), this is because you mount the Reg No (black letters, cut in reverse) on the back of clear perspex & then mount the yellow or white reflective tape over the letters. (with the aid of a roller to sandwich it all together).

Thanks for the reply John.
None of our suppliers here sell the reverse reflective. Didn’t know such a thing was available. 😕
It is against the law to make your own plates here. They are only made by the government (DMT) or a sole contractor in each state that has the exclusive rights to do anything other than the standard plates (www.ppq.com.au). Most are made from pressed metal, but the expensive plates are perspex like you have described.
Thanks again for taking the time to reply.
Cheers

Hi Shane,
sounds like you have the same system as they do in America, where you have a new set of plates once a year every time you pay for there version of road tax & insurance.
what i find interesting is that some states they only have a rear plate & so they have personnel plate on the front, (some saying “praise the lord”)
long johnps still waiting for email with info (John Childs)

lj…..

long johnLJ, our plates are a once only issue, they come with the car from purchase and they don’t change unless you decide on personal plates or you de-register the car.
Our plates have a message on them too (standard phrases like Queensland – the sunshine state etc) or if you have a fleet, you can pay to have your slogan and logo on each plate.
It is against the law here not to have two identical plates on any powered vehicle, or 1 plate on a non powered vehicle (trailer) . To prove we have paid our yearly registration incl road taxes etc, we get this little printed sticker that must be displayed on set areas of the windows or the vehicle is deemed ‘unregistered’ and they give you a fine. This is so parking inspectors and the police don’t have to think too hard, and they know they only have to look in a couple of spots. 😕
Cheers
Shane
