Hi Peter
Put simply, its not worth it!! :lol1:
Ok, so you have to do them …. unfortunately in the model trade the end user invariably wants to pay the same for the decals that you just spent 20 minutes weeding with 2 scalpels and had to cut twice to get right as the screenprinted full colour rubbish that they got in the box.
I tend to work on the principal that as the time & effort .v. the profit ratio is massivly biased towards the time & effort end of the ratio I charge a great deal more per sq metre than I would on normal signage jobs.
Most of my work is paint mask creation as most car modellers spray their lexan shells from the inside, this doesnt make the job any easier of course, in fact just before I typed this I was weeding a decal set for a 1:8th car where the average letter height was 6mm….
If you want my advice, take your normal charges per sq metre and change them to sq 10cm and you’d be about right. Design of course is another matter completely – the bottom line is that you are dealing with an end user who either MUST have it or simply would LIKE it – the two are completely differnt to please.
Hope this helps.
