    Hello folks
my name is rob and i`ve just joined.
I have seen a second hand machine for sale but cant find any info on it anywhere?
    Its a Mutoh XP500.
It must be an older model cos even the mutoh website has no information about it.I wonder if any one can tell me about it. I have been told that mutoh are very good cutters so will an older model still be a worthwhile buy?
    Thanks Rob

    Rob

    Welcome to the site.

I used an old Mutoh 900 a while ago, built like a tank. I presume the 500 is it’s cutting width, and if that is OK for you and it’s working fine should be a good machine. Depends on the price it is going for. If a 500 cutting width is all you are looking for, there are plenty of new machines around and you will get a guarantee with them. Reliability is more important than saving a couple of quid.

Any how, glad to see you on the site,

    Yours

    Tony

i think mutoh is a decent make, don’t think i have heard any complaints that spring to mind. but i haven’t tried or saw one working.

    500 wide?
there is a problem right away though, i hear more and more suppliers stopping their 500 wide vinyl range to allow for more stock on 610, 1000 wide etc other than that nothing wrong with the size…

my main issues with second hand cutters and printers is, you just don’t know how hard they have been pushed, its like buying a car “cash” you walk round it kicking the tyres… its gleaming, smells lovely inside & has your name all over it, you hand over the cash shake the hand and drive away…
two blocks later the steam comes out from under the bonnet, and it back fires 😮 :lol1: :lol1: :lol1:

back you go, “sorry mate, sold as seen” 😮

your stung before you get a job for it…

now i am not by any means saying that all deals are like this, i just think that if your buying second hand you should know what to look for under the hood, if you dont, the person selling should be very reliable or you take someone that knows whats what… doing it blind ide stay be wary, your starting a new business, your main tool has to be reliable, you want warranties, support etc. remember even if it runs, you may need some advice on how to use it… 😕

sorry to sound so negative, i just wouldn’t like someone to fall running before they start to run.

    Cheers for the advice lads.
I know what you mean about buying second hand, its always a risk.
I have seen some really cheep new machines offered at signwizard e.t.c, what do you think of these brands like KINGCUT & OMEGA.
Size of cut is obviously an issue, but my vinyl supplier will cut my orders to any width anyway. My Rolland pnc500 color camm will only cut a max of 15″ because of the attached printing head , i find this a real bind on bigger jobs that have to be pieced together. so i will probably go for a machine that cuts 24″ or 30″ what would you suggest?????

Just my opinion, but I rate the Graphtec plotters. Some of the older ones were built like tanks and seem to last forever. A new one would obviously cost more but they are great plotters. I always think you should buy the best you can afford. I rarely use the full width of mine (1220mm) but it is a real Godsend when I do.

I don’t know anything about some of these budget priced plotters that are springing up, but I personally would always stick with known brands.

I think Nigel has an Omega? Oi Nigel…….

i only advise on machines ive used…

i cant fault graphtec, their machines are work horses and support is brill as they use their own men…
roland make good reliable machines, but find support terrible, mainly because they draft in tech guys on various locations. a call i had recently just confirmed any thoughts i had on them having changed. sorry roland… good machines but we need help and if it cant be given a bit of sympathy would come a nice second.

    anyway.. graphtec for me 1st

ive heard good reports on summa but have never saw one running or used one.

    Hi Big G
I read somewhere on the forum about some one buying a graphtec plotter from Germany and saving quite a bit. Do you know anything about this?

I remember that but can’t remember who it was. I wonder what sort of after sales service you would get from a deal like that? Imagine if something did go wrong and you had to send the machine back to Germany!

If you decide to get a new Graphtec, join UKSG first…..
