what paints can i use for interior walls?
Hi Guys,
i`m going to have a go at painting our new baby girl`s nursery over the holidays and i`m thinking of freehanding a few disney characters on the wall.
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on which paints to use.
I was thinking along the lines of out-lining with a bullet tip thick marker pen then filling in the spaces kinda like a colouring-in book. For me, the marker is easier to use than a brush.
I would also like to varnish over them when finished (It`s just one wall so i was planning on just varnishing the entire wall) but was concerned the varnish might now want to stick to the marker ink.
I had initially bought some simple wax vrayons and tested them on a wall inside the fitted wardrobe but they seemed to smudge far too easily. This would have been my preferred method (particularly for shades on the images).
Really don`t know where to start and being a perfectionist, i don`t wanna use stuff that won`t last or look crap in a few months etc.
Anyone able to offer any advice?

big ink jets print on to textured wall paper well if you use pigmented or solvent lasts well
but because its the kidies room you will want to do it by hand its a dad thing

rather than paint the wall which will be harder to disgize later in life i might consider papering with a plain backing paper emulioned ? first then use poster paints

I have been painting interior murals since High School,
which was in about AD 1753.
I have always used acrylic paint without any problems.
Back then, it was the tube variety, thinned with polymer medium.
For white I used Gesso.
Nowadays, at least here in the good old U S of A,
craft stores sell these cute little bottles of liquid acrylic paint.
They are cheap, maybe $1.49 at most, and come in a variety of colors.
I would sketch the things on the wall with a regular pencil,
paint them, and do the outline last.
Altho a fat permanent marker would be great for this,
in the coming years, I promise that it will bleed thru
any type or color of paint you’ll put on those walls.
There is no need to varnish over them as it will just eventually darken.
And acrylic paint is usually washable.
It’s also non-toxic, unlike sign paint.
….and just don’t let Disney catch you!
