  • Take away shop window

    Hi everyone,

I am being let out of the paintshop for a couple of hours later this week to apply some vinyls to a takeaway shop near Bradford. It was all going to be straightforward enough, but then the customer took a fancy to a rather nice design she had seen in a restaurant window, and now wants this design applying to her new shop. Yikes! I have taken a digi pic of the required effect, which is stuck from inside the restaurant in white vinyl. The trouble is, so far I have had no success drawing it on my computer, and even less success trying to vector the photo.

Is there any chance that anyone might have a bit of clipart like this? It would be an enormous help. Thank you for looking, anyway!

    Regards,
    David

Well, it’s just a load of wavy lines, innit? I don’t know what software you use, but I’d create single lines, curve them to suit, and then outline them. Finally, weld them together. If your design is to cross several windows, like the one in the photo, create it all as one BIG design and then chop it up to fit each window. That way the lines will flow from one pane to the next.

Ah, but if you look closely the lines are of different thicknesses, and some even are tapered. Not easy!
    I am running Signlab 5.

Ah, but I don’t think that would be a problem. Outlining each line by varying amounts is easy enough, and you could move a few nodes to get some irregular tapering. I think you would end up with the same sort of effect. Go on my son, have a go at it. πŸ™‚

I’ve just tested the method described above, took about 5 mins. This isn’t perfect but you should be able to get a better result with a bit of time….

Thats a class design, I really like that πŸ˜€ As Andy says, it is just wavy lines, but blimey, its effective.

Good luck with the design though David, hope it works out okay, and look forward to seeing the results.

    Cheers, Dewi

    I am so lazy.
I’d use ΒΌ and Β½ inch single-stripe pinstriping tape.
    It comes in white.
If you stretch it, it gets thinner.
It’s really easy to curve too.
Just trim the edges and you’re done.
    No weeding, no masking.
Just remember to peel off the liner!
    Love….Jill
