Paperthickness
Posted by Fredrik on 8 November 2004 at 14:33Hello,
We have been asked if we could print on 0.7-0.8 mm paper on our versacamm. Now I wonder if anyone have tried that or something else that resembles paper. And do you think it would work?

Hi,
Yes, you can print onto media upto 1mm thick in the VersaCAMM.
You would have course have to do a ‘print adjust calibration’ and a ‘BI-Dir calibration’
Run a few test prints, you’ll probably find that a ‘variable dry’ setting will give you better results on paper as variable can put too much black ink down which will soak into the paper and give a mottled pattern.
As far as profiles go, I tend to use Metamark MD5-100 for paper.
Hope this is of help.

Can you alter the head height on a Versacam?
The Soljet can do up to 1mm thick , but that too is a mission.
You will run into problems with thick media a few ways
The head can hit it , it can buckle with the heaters on , feed is not precise , the rollers can make marks , you need to support it from the front and rear and it might not print nicely. Uncoated paper/board tends to suck in inks. solvent or mild solvent papers are quite cheap – we pay about 80 pence a sq meter for semi gloss high quality papers designed specifically for solvent and mild solvent based printers.
