    Hi all,

Just a quick question, i am trying to track down some flexible neon that saw in a sign mag (sign link i think), that should an American company that had done a van for a radio station, which had lightning bolts in the logo they followed out lines of logo & Lightning with a flexible neon wire which was illuminated at night and looked awesome! Would love to get hold of some any used it/got any ideas on where i could get it?

    Many thanks

the stuff you’re thinking about is called neon cable and is available from smart group – http://www.smart-group.co.uk – use the drop down menu for sign lighting on their home page.

It’s not bad to work with and the light output is ok too – not as good as neon but hey, what is?!

    Good luck

handling is fairly straightforward, just don’t try to achieve any really tight bends but apart from that you should be fine. Smart Group are helpful too and if you’ve got any problems i’m sure they’ll help you out.

The thing that interests me though is how are you going to power it if it’s being fitted to a vehicle?

it can be easily powered with an inverter. You can get the inverter and the EL wire from maplins. You put your vinyl on the vehicle first then superglue the EL wire over the top of the vinyl. Maplins have a nine channel sequencer that you can run it through to get different effects ie making different parts of it come on and off or flash at different times. The brightness is quite good on this stuff but I think the wire has a fairly short life (about one year)
    Cheers
