Last week some “nutter” phoned up asking how much it would cost to get a Transit van lettered up.

Alison took the call and explained politely that it all depended on the amount of work involved in the job – but typically prices started from about 150 -200 pounds + vat for a van of this size.

The “Nutter” then started complaining and ranted on about how he had had three vans done in Edinburgh for £100 pounds each. A slightly exasperated Alison suggested to him that he sticks with his current supplier….At this point the “Nutter” went off on a rant about how we were “ripping off” customers and he would report us to trading standards.

At this point I intervened and spoke to the fellow ..but very quickly lost my temper and told him not to tell me how to run my business and how to price the work I do. I was very angry with his attitude and made this very clear to him (before hanging up abruptly).

Today, a trading standards senior officer turned up to have “General chat” with me. I was convinced that this was because of the phonecall last week – but was told this was not the case , he was just passing and was interested in the work we do. 🙄

I told him the story of the “Nutter” and explained that I was not prepared to listen to stupid complaints from the general public about my pricing. I run my business to make a living (not as a charity). If anyone cares not to pay my prices they are at liberty to go elsewhere.. but please .. do not try and tell me how to price my signs and run my business.

It makes me mad that my taxes are paying the salary of someone who is obliged to investigate every Tom Dick and Harrys bogus dubious complaints.

I hijacked the the investigation by asking the trading standards officer to investigate some of my complaints, namely:-

1/ Who keeps sending me faxes offering cheap holidays/ removal from their mailing list (at premium rate nos.) etc. 🙄

    2/ Policemens Diaries.. 🙄

3/ Childrens Charities (wall planners – drugs awareness leaflets etc.)

4/ Blind persons charities (toilet paper and towels packed by the blind) 🙄

5/ Cheap gas/ electricity / Phonecalls / sex (ok – I made that one up) etc.

…. He left with his tail between his legs and promised to report back to me the result of his investigations into the issues I had raised 😉

Just in case anyone was wondering 🙄 – a quick update:-

the local trading standards office phoned this morning to re-assure me that they were following up my complaint about the company that phones up to advise me that the “Drugs awareness leaflets” had now been printed complete with our name on (as sponsors) and what school would we like them to be sent too?

Given that I have tracked down the company responsible for pulling this scam – and provided trading standards with the phone number of the company making these calls (Incidently the number is – 0161 4452388 – go on phone them – it’s about time someone rattled their cage a bit ) you would expect an arrest to be made soon wouldn’t you….

I’m so pleased that my taxes are put to such good use that trading standards are fighting it out on my behalf……………not 👿

    Nice one mate

It would have been great if you could find this company who will sign up a transit for £100 I could give them some work as I would probably be charging around £250 for the same job, so I could do nothing and make a £150 profit!

There are some right plonkers out there!

Does anyone else get continual calls from a company called Iomart, who do website search engine ranking? They call so much it is almost like harassment.
