A customer has sent me a font for some window stickers he has ordered. The font is Arail Unicode MS. In word it is possible to put the font in bold and italic But when I use it in CorelDraw (I am cutting from coreldraw) I cannot put the font in Bold or Italic. Does anyone know why it is doing this?

CorelDraw 11 btw

(I bet there is a really simple answer :lol1: )

I think they call it Microsoft ! (:)

Word I believe alters the fonts appearance, doesn’t mean it is a genuine Italic.

I may be wrong.

A quick work-around in Corel would be to first convert it to curves, add a thick outline to the text then ‘slant’ the text.

If you get stuck let me know and I’ll do a step by step thingy :lol1:

Could you not just install/import the font into Corel?
I can do that with Gerber GA.
Please don’t design in Word!
That privilege is specifically for customers! 😉

Word has this wonderfull thing in that it can turn fonts to italic even if the original font is not italic. So you copy and past to corel and hey the font isn’t a proper ttf so will only show as the normal font in corel.

If I had to do it I think I would save as eps an inport as curves to corel.

When I’ve got stuck with this problem in the past I have ended up printing to laser from word, scanning and then vectorising the bitmap. However, Flexi’s vectorising program is sooo much better than Corel 11 so depending on the complexity this might not be feasible.

What a lot of work 🙁
Surely print to file as an .prn or .ps file.
Inport into Corel as EPS/PRN curves.
Keeping everything as vectors lot easier than scanning.

Just tried print to file, then importing it to corel but it won’t let me import it 😕 .

I’ve managed to enter Arial Unicode text into a drawing in OpenOffice.org and export it as .eps

The problem is the bold characters or not formed correctly, see bellow. Why not use ordinary Arial. The weights vary slightly but that’s all.
