Posted by Bill Dewison on 1 August 2004 at 20:46Ok so its a poor pun 😕
I figure its about time for me to be really brave and show one of the vans I’ve done. I say brave because I’m not overly sure whether I’m very good at doing vans yet. My customers are happy, but when I compare with what I see on here, I wonder. 🙄
Anyway, all done in Oracal 751. Took me about 9 hours to apply all in all, but then I am still a beginner at this (excuses, excuses eh! 😉 ) It was kind of taxing in another way due to the lovely weather today, but I persevered. The gent is collecting it in the morning, I really hope he likes it 😕
Cheers, Dewi

Thanks John & Nik 😀
Nik, I cut the white part all as one strip. Then I cut a piece of blue, the yellow and the silver. I laid the blue over the glass first, then the white, cut away any of the blue showing on the right edge. Then just popped on the yellow and the silver 😀 Pretty simple to type, but it was a tad difficult to fit it on. Luckily I’ve been practising a technique Robert showed me a while back for going round curves, and it came in useful on this job 😀 As did his denim squeegee idea! 😀

excellent job Dewi, was the denim easier to use than a felt squeegee.

as everyone has said mate you have done very well… 😛
those panels arent the easiest to manage on your todd… well done. 😉
ill posts a few piccies this week on applying the denim to the squeegee.
the way you have done it is fine, but im guessing you would have been trying to keep it tight on the squeegee whilst applying the vinyl? whcuh can become a bit tricky on large jobs..well done and thanks for taking the time to post your work… 😀

Again, thanks for the comments guys 😀 The gent came to collect the van and was happy with the result, so I got paid which was nice 😀
The denim-covered squeegee was much more useful than the felt for the majority of the job. Obviously the curves on the bonnet and back door were a little wierd to do and they both took quite a bit of work to make them look right. I’d certainly use the denim squeegee again. I held it similiar to the way you showed me at SignUK Robert, but when I got to the backdoor it was going all over the place 😕 It cemented in my mind that I’ll be doubling my practise from a couple of hours a week to a minimum of 4, at least until I’ve sped up a little. I’ve made time for practising every single week since I started signmaking, just that if I’m practising a technique incorrectly, I’m effectively teaching myself to apply incorrectly 🙁
Cheers, Dewi
