Has anyone ever worked out how to maintain the colours when exporting an AI file from Signlab to Coreldraw.

Everytime i do it, i`ve got to then sit and alter the Coreldraw image to more accurate colours as they are totally differnet from those exported from Signlab.

    Cheers

Yes export from Signlab as eps and import into corel as “postscript interpreted” that works

Im no signlab techie with colours since we hardly use that , but I think Signlab works with vinyl palettes etc , and the colour that is on the display wont match a corel display if their isn’t a corresponding pallette in Corel
Essentially , you need to be in the same colour space in both programs and to what the monitor is set to display.
Check your colour management in Corel (or signlab) , a lot depends what you are going to do with the file , however in Corel , if you are printing it , go to colour calbration under tool and set the monitor to emulate professional output (cmyk printer)
Thing is , unless the final monitor the graphic appears on is calibrated to the output device , you will never see what you are getting , and futzing with colours might just make things worse.
What is your workflow , IE what are you doing and why are you going from s/lab to corel?

Have a look at the colour manager in Corel and make sure it is turned OFF.
Even if colours are off use Corel’s ‘find and replace’ function to change colours easily.

If you turn the color management off , you will never get near any colour for any output , even vinyls, as you are in pure RGB mode and no printer/vinyl/screenprint process can emulate this mode in terms of luminance etc.
The key to determining what strategy you follow in regard to colour workflow , monitor profiling , colour spaces is output or output device. We have to know what the gent is using the Corel graphic for.

By turning Corel’s manager off the display should be closer to Signlabs display, I agree some sort of management would be required if for print output then the print device may have a profile to use with the manager. I suppose depending on which version and modules you have in Signlab display may vary anyway. I use Signlab V7 (vinyl Pro) and Corel V10 and if I want displays to be similar – management is OFF if I want a closer display to how it will actually print ie printing press – management is ON. I have also found that on my particular colour laser – rgb colour model in Corel, management off ie let the laser sort it out produces expected results not so with cmyk.
Colour management has alway been the problem between monitor and print device, so many variables.

    Hi guys,

Firstly i`d like to apologise for missing the replies to this post after reading Steve`s.

Rodney, Using Signlab 5, i`m trying to create a jpg image to give to the customer as a proof/sample.

To do this, i`m exporting the selected image as an ai file and importing it into coreldraw 8 so i can then save it as a jpeg image to email to a customer.

When i import it into Coreldraw 8, the colours are different shades and although it is no real major timesink in changing the colours of the objects in Corel 8, it does take time, especially when the customers wants some changes to the original design and i have to start way back from scratch.

I`ll try the suggestions you guys already gave and let you know how i get on.

Thanks again for the replies guys, appreciated as always.

    Rod
