will flat cut letters go with a built up sign?
Posted by magpie on 6 July 2004 at 09:33I have a client wanting his logo in built up acylic and then the words Estate Agents to go underneath it. As these leters will be no more than 170mm I’m thinking that they would be better as flat cut. But will they work with the built up logo?
Any help appreciated, cheers Pete.

how big is the return on the logo and text.
how high is the logo? -
Hi Rob attached is a mock up of the facia which should answer all question bar the return size on which I’m open to suggestions having little experiance of these things.

Should look quite good…do a 40mm return on logo letters and 5mm flat cut on loctotors (which will bring them up to about 24mm from the fixing background)
We used to do this quite a bit.. gives the logo more importance then the smaller text.Simon

simons suggestions pretty good mate. only other alternative that maybe cheaper (not sure, certainly would be for me as i have my own router)
anyway.. try get an offcut of 40mm perspex from a supplier & just router cut the lot.
fastest way of getting that depth i know of. would work for all letters too.. down side is the small letters will not look good at that depth so like simon says, go for flat or slightly thicker than 5mm. -
Good point Rob… or you could just laminate up using 5mm off cuts and a straight fluted cutter with bearing guide, and run round the letters.
I did this with some mdf letters. i bought in 12mm thick flat cut letters, traced round them onto 18mm thick mdf, roughly jig-sawed them out (leaving about 2-3mm extra all round) glued them to the 12mm MDF and run round with a hand held router which trimmed them all flush, ended up with 30mm thick letters…if that makes sense??
