    Hi All,

Been asked to look into doing a mural for a nursery wall. I have a rough idea of what i`m looking for and finding the Disney characters is really easy. They are all over the place.

My problem is i can`t seem to find any backgrounds to put the characters on to. I`d like a sort of Jungle Scene with maybe a pond in the corner (for the water based Disney characters).

Anyone have any ideas where i might find something to kick start my thinking as to how to lay-out the backdrop? I`m looking to have a cavalcade of characters on it etc.

It`ll be spot colours i`m doing with no shades etc. I`ve searched the net and found nothing.

    Hi
go to the libary and get the kids books out, they are normally illustrated very simply so easy to scan and vectorise

    Hi Rod,
Another idea is to buy some kids colouring books, the mono printed images are great for scanning & vectorising, a few years ago my daughter was a fan of Disney’s Aladin, I got an Aladin colouring book & scanned her favorite couple of pictures, converted from bitmap to vectors in Flexisign, then cut them in vinyl, great fun 😀

    Cheers, Steve

    Thanks Steve,

It sounds a good idea. As i said, i have no end of vectored Disney Images, i just can`t find a decent, suitable backdrop anywhere on the net.

I have the image in my head of what i need, i just need some help, with the aid of an actual image, to kick start me 🙂

    Thanks again

    Hi McRod!
If the image is in your head, let it out! You can make the background rather sketchy and subdued so as to make the characters stand out. And surely you can paint on a sky with a few clouds and a happy little tree or two. Just put down the dropcloth and get busy.

But watch out that Disney doesn’t come after your ass! They are quite litigious when it comes to folks using their copyrighted characters. Someone from Disney is probably reading this right now, and waiting to pounce on you! :police2:

Andrew thats almost exactly what i`m looking for. The plan is to create a huge “colour in” outline image on the wall using matt black vinyl.

I figure thats the quickest way to achieve what i`m looking for. Bascially a 8 foot high by 20 foot wide image to colour in using paints.

That image you posted is just the kind of thing i`m after.

    Thanks for posting it.

    Jill,

Good call on making the background more sketchy and subdued as to show the characters up more. I`ll bear that in mind.

    Thanks

A slightly thicker outline just around the characters will also define them more
then you can still use loads of colour

    looks like fun
