• What a waste!

I don’t really know where to start.

I am totally gobsmacked by the following(i’m now going to go off on a rant)

Went to Sign 2004 met some people(hello jayne), picked up the leaflets ,watched the demo’s etc. One such demo was the ‘Keencut’ system for cutting all sorts inc’ 10mm foamex.
Went home, thought about the cutters from ‘Keencut’…buy one, phoned nearest distributor, none in stock.. 3 WEEKS lead time!!!!!!! .phoned manufacturer…NO STOCK!!!! 3 WEEK WAIT!!!!
Everything they sell is made to order, and it takes 3 b****y weeks to make it…WHY!!!!!
Phoned various distributors around the country and nobody has any stock of the item i wanted (cheaper end of the market ,£300)

So obviously an ‘in demand product’ shipped world wide, product flies off the shelf as fast as it’s made. If i was the man at the top, i’m afraid something would have to happen and it would have to be made faster,by what ever means…3 weeks wait is unacceptable..If i told my customers that they would have to wait 3 weeks..i don’t think i would be using this forum.
Apparently, they are waiting to move into bigger premises, the building should have been complete in February… guess the brickies couldn’t get the bricks/blocks ..3 week lead time mate, you’ll have to wait!!!!

No wonder British Industry fails, and foreign competitors move in.

So does anyone know of a good Foamex Cutting system (10mm max)?
Could be from anywhere in the world, the vast majority of the machinery/technology we use is from the Far East,is there a cutting system out there? (or are they not prepared to wait 3 weeks to get an original to rip off!!!!!)

    Ok, done now

Darryl is that the ali ruler with the stanley blade holder at the side that you slide along?(sounds a bit crude, but you get the idea)

I used one in my last job (Javlin make) worked a treat, got it from Victory, but now I’m using a made up one from Robs demo.

    Cheers

Yes dave the Javelin is one of the ‘brands/types’ from KeenCut
Like all good ideas it is simple in itself, and the way it does the job.
Spent a few hours last night on the ‘net, looking for alteranitives and there doesn’t seem to be any!!!. Rototrim and Dahle, two names i associate with cutters and trimmers don’t have anything like it, no wonder the bloke i spoke to at the factory didn’t give a toss..it appears to be unique, and they can’t be bothered to up production to meet demand.

Hi Darryl, you could look at an Accuglide from Multimount (Yorkshire), 2M version is around £300.
