I think there was a post on this subject but I can’t find it.
I’m going on the Wednesday. Badges arrived today; I ordered one in my girlfriends name with “Assistant” written on it. ๐Ÿ˜†

It’d be good to meet a few of the members in real life, so to speak.

Well I can finally say that I will be at the show Wednesday & Thursday.
I have just booked my room at the event, (bloody rip-off ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ) but its now done and dusted. ๐Ÿ˜‰
My first half of the day will be on b&pโ€™s stand and similar looking at laminators and printers. (Even though I know I am set on the grenadier) ide like to see it in action and ask many questions.
Onto the rest of the day I will probably go for a stroll round & see whatโ€™s new and check out Steve and co. on the hands on area. ๐Ÿ˜‰ (got my tomatoes packed ๐Ÿ˜† )
Iโ€™m more than happy to meet up with anyone in the second half of the day for a few jars & have a laugh. Having said that, if anyone else is staying over let me know.
I donโ€™t think I will be alone travelling down, but will be staying on my todd overnight and coming home the following evening. ๐Ÿ˜€

Im not far from the NEC (well about an hour) I registered on the site but still haven’t received any tickets. Should they be arriving about now?

Im looking forward to being there, not sure which day yet…I might go on the Wed and if its good go again the next day. Hoping I can make some contacts and learn some stuff.

Sounds strange but Im looking forward to seeing the car park of all things, should be interesting seeing how people have done there own vehicles.

Wednesday is the day for me also ๐Ÿ˜€

The thing I’ll find most bizarre is meeting everyone in person, I’ve only met a few ppl from uksignboards and they were not what I expected. Imagine the scenario when you times that by 100! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜†

Up to now there are 3 ppl riding shotgun in the dewi-mobile, room for 3 more (around the Manchester area). I think Pete is going down in his car, but if he changes his mind, there’ll be 2 spare seats. ๐Ÿ˜€

I hope someone will bring a camera. I want to live vicariously thru pictures. (drink1)

Dewi, it’s always kinda weird for me at live meets.
Everyone comes up and says “Hi Jillbeans, you look just like your picture”
or “You’re much shorter in person” It’s funny because the Internet makes everyone seem like old pals.

What’s really funny is when folks use avatars like the one I have…
I look nothing like it! And some folks use their high school picture that is about 15 years old, etc.

Anyway, I hope you all have fun. I’m leaving for Canada! (love2)

Good luck for Canada Jill ๐Ÿ˜€ Enjoy ๐Ÿ˜€ I’ve seen that many pictures of you though Jill, I think I’d know you if I met you ๐Ÿ˜‰

I know what you mean with the avatars though, ppl use some bizarre piccies of themselves. I just whizzed down to the local Woolies and got a piccy of myself as the one I used initially was a little old and I don’t bleach my hair white anymore (got tired of the Man from Uncle jokes ๐Ÿ˜ณ ) I’m just waiting til I meet Robert in person, I find it hard to believe that he’s as youthful in person, especially with the lack of sleep he seems to have ๐Ÿ˜• ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜• And if Steve B. really is 7ft tall, I’ll retract my earlier heckling promises! ๐Ÿ˜ฅ

Perhaps I might recognise some of your faces…

Thought I would use this discussion as an excuse for a rant (hot)

I am planning to go to the sign show on Wednesday and thought it may be a more ralaxing journey to go by train (from Essex) as I was told that the train pulls right in to the NEC exhibition centre. – The price for a return ticket from Essex is ยฃ42.00!!! (!) – three of us are planning to go – ยฃ120 plus by train(!) ยฃ30 by car – and were’e being encouraged to used public transport – I thought the train was supposed to take the strain not my bank balance (:)

I’m flying over to the show on Tuesday. If you see my shiny head, say hello.

Robert should get all our avitars/photos and make a wanted poster and stick it up at the entrance (or probably better at the bar)!

How come you ended up with ยฃ200 a night though Robert? Like Brian said, 15-30 minutes away its miles cheaper and they throw in a burnt sausage or two. Just the thing when you’ve got a raging hangover the morning after the night before ๐Ÿ˜‰

to be honest mate i couldnt plan it.. i have missed signuk for the last 2 years due to work.. before that i was there every year. ๐Ÿ˜•
closer to the date i decided i was going and thats that.. i called and couldnt get a room anywhere.. i will be staying overnight on my own and getting the train home. next eveing. so thats why i wanted to be near the nec.
i travel all over the uk working for days on end and i know how easy it is to get lost and things turning sour.. so i thought, if im on my own i want to be right next door to the exhibition due to going 2 days and handy for the train. if i added taxis back and fore, the hassles, time etc i wouldnt be too far off what im paying.. well maybe i will but i need peace of mind.. ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† anyway.. i never eat a breakfast so ive saved something ๐Ÿ˜ฎ ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜†

the good thing is its a cracking hotel and has all the perks.. so i cant go far wrong… i hope ๐Ÿ˜• anyone want to come back for some grub and a drink… we can wreck my room! honest ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜†
im on the bath robes ๐Ÿ˜‰

Alternatively we could all descend on the live demo area with some cans of spray paint and do some ‘inebriation art’ ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† Second thoughts, might not go down too well.

I’m fairly good at face recognition, so even if you’ve all posted dodgy photos that are 4-5 years out of date, bet you a pint (of orange juice ๐Ÿ˜ฅ ) I recognise you ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰ Best bet though is something like the main bar in the hall, bout 2-3 o clock… gives us all chance to find our feet in the morning, get a bit of business done, and leaves a couple of hours for a chat, a beer or two and the endless jokes that’ll likely follow ๐Ÿ˜‰

    That’s true!

But its not like the Ideal Home Exhibition or Earl’s Court Motor show where they give out lots of freebies!

Perhaps they should be thinking of more freebies to give away as little teasers to get us to attend.

Anyway I think its good to keep up with what’s going on. Sometimes the Show can prove to be a stimulant as far as giving us some ideas as how we would like to develop our business and that can’t be bad.

I really really wanted to be there Rob, especially to have a good close look at the Cadet but i have a workload that would choke a horse and if i don`t do it, it won`t get done while i`m away. Really needed a break too.

One of the downsides about being self-employed i suppose. Your average employed type person usually has only 1 boss to answer to as many sick days as they want and guaranteed 4 weeks off a year without a glitch.

I have something like 5 or 6 “bosses” to keep happy on a daily basis, ain`t been able to take more than 5 days off in 8 years and the thought of having a day off to recover from a heavy cold is a thing of the past.

Wears you down after a while.

“Must be great being self – employed” i hear regularly. Sometimes it is, sometimes it isn`t.

    Sorry for rambling ๐Ÿ˜•

Just back from SignUK. If you go… bring a gas mask! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Those solvent printers give off some whiff, especially from fresh prints.

I am in the market for a Versacamm or a Cadet and there is little to choose between them as each has their advantages. The Cadet’s solvent inks do give a little better bite than the Versacamm’s ecosol inks but both still require laminating for ‘agressive environments’ and prints form both should be left overnight before laminating.

Personally, I will go for the Versacamm for its lack of odour plus… some of the suppliers at the show are offering a free laminator!

I must go now and get some headache tablets after breathing in those solvent fumes. ๐Ÿ™

Well having been offline for afew days was not able to catch up on this thread but I did by chance bump into about 5 or 6 faces from here ๐Ÿ˜ฎ without looking too hard.

Well I took the plunge and put a deposit down on the old Versacamm.
I hope I made the right decision as I lost track of the Versacamm thread a long time ago. I guess I better go find it again ๐Ÿ˜†

As has been said before, too much digital printing and not enough grass roots stuff.

    quote niknaxpc:

why don’t you all meet at the europoint display stand!! ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† at a certain time!! cause there is a few bars as nigel pointed out!!

would that not be easier!! ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€

    Nik

Nice one Nik – had us all looking hard for the Europoint stand. Don’t know if you were winding us up but you certainly suckered me… as I wandered all around the exhibition looking for Europoint…….only to finally discover they weren’t exhibiting this year…doh!!! ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Never mind!! a few of us met up anyway….great to see you guys:D

Was great meeting you Phill ๐Ÿ˜€ And Mike, I saw you at the Live Demo stand, but by the time I got round to the other side, you’d gone ๐Ÿ™

The fatal flaw to the masterplan, no Europoint stand ๐Ÿ˜• As Phill said though, we all met up in some way or another.

Met Robert, Big G, Steve Thurlow, Mort, John Singh, Liam (Orangedog), Kevin (KTF), Danny, Henry, Bob, NeliJane, Nigel and I took along Pete (magpie). Hope I haven’t forgotten anyone! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ Been one of those days were there’s been so many ppl, its been crazy ๐Ÿ˜€ Oh I spotted Mike, Steve Lamby and Brian Hayes, but didn’t manage to say hello properly.

Next year we’ll just have to make sure the meeting place actually exists! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    Cheers, Dewi

Was it me or did I miss the Europoint stand. I was looking forward to meeting you guys – still maybe next year. Signlab 7 looks a bit good compared to my V5 expecially on XP Pro, didn’t realise how big the Versa camm is, a lottery win wouldn’t last long there would it.

Great meeting you guys ๐Ÿ˜† and you all looked younger/taller/thinner than your avitar photos …….

    ……(yeah right )

I’ll have to update my photo to include my drums again, all I kept getting was “….DRUMMER!!” (……i won’t mention “god you look old”… I’ve had a busy month ok ๐Ÿ˜ฅ )

And who was that young freckley schoolboy who reckoned HE was Rob Lambie ๐Ÿ˜• HA!! only joking, great fun, shame I had to go, would have enjoyed going back to Rob’s Hotel & help him to empty his mini bar ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰
It’ll be good to meet up again 1 day,

    Cheers, Steve.

P.S. found the Europoint stand!!! Gents toilet next to the bar ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

We made an attempt to empty Robert’s mini bar, and we managed to trash his TV in the hotel room ๐Ÿ˜‰ The only other thing we could think of was to charge a case of Moet to his room, tell the concierge to wake him at 6am and then run for the car park!! ๐Ÿ˜€

Just so everyone knows in advance, the pictures/video footage Robert has of me on his bed, its all innocent! Innocent I tell you! I was simply checking the firmness of the mattress and the suitability of the room for its ยฃ200 a night price tag. I was! ๐Ÿ˜ณ ๐Ÿ˜ณ

Was a pleasure to meet you though Steve, who would have known you’d be 8ft tall and riding around the exhibition on a Lambretta! ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜†

sorry about that phil, it was no wind-up honest ๐Ÿ˜ฎ
you would have thought europoint, wanting to be the biggest company in the business would want to drum up more at the expo!!

my apologies to all, that is to the ones who walked around and around cursing and swearing at my name!! ๐Ÿ™„ ๐Ÿ˜‰

Just to say it was great to meet up with you guys at the show

Strange how the avatars look so different from the real you!!

Seems like your experts in Photoshop ๐Ÿ˜†

Everybody seemed surprised at how short I was. For some reason every one thought I was about 6 foot 6 (how did you all arrive at that from an avatar??) ๐Ÿ˜€

Anyway it was good to talk shop – I got away without spending a penny (well I did use the loos once) but I think Rob got caught left, right and centre.

Did anyone get to see that stamp making machine
Seemed pretty good but didn’t have time to check it out fully
I think you have to become an agent
Any one check out the costs etc

    Must do this again sometime

Could be ‘UK Signboard meet’ (-)

John i saw the machine and me and Phill got caught up in a 45 minute ( yes 45 Minute) sales pitch on the agency.

Yes it looks great , easy to use and seem’d it could be profitable……..

If you sold quite a few a week and was prepared to by tied up to a 3 year contract. ๐Ÿ™„

The machine was something like 35 quid a week and the stamps were starting from around 8 quid each blank. the mark up was good but I think that sort of thing is ideal for a shop. and when he tried to tie my m8 phill up to a 3 yr deal there and then “As we dont have a agent in your area” We ran a mile.

But i did get a free stamp out of it ๐Ÿ™‚

Hi all, just thought I’d stick my head round the corner and shout hello !

Good to see you all at the show and marvel at how different people look in real life ๐Ÿ˜€
Don’t know what shape Rob will be in when he gets back, think he got a good night out courtesy of B&P graphics sales team after the show. Someone mention a strip club in Birmingham …. ? ๐Ÿ˜‰

I didn’t see this magic stamp making machine – do you mean rubber stamps ? If so you can make a nice job of these using a laser too out of interest….

    Thanks Paul

thought it was along those lines
your right! it kinda belongs in the shop environment and I guess you would have to advertise it well that you do stamps.

Dewi: Its a stamp making machine thats about the size of an A3 printer
Its for making stamps that firms use to stamp their invoices, cheques or letters etc with your company details. Not the normal rubber stamp but more (I don’t know what you call it) laser type print techi stuff.

Very impressive demo but its the agency bit that gets me

Good to hear you escaped the hotel carpark Nigel ๐Ÿ˜‰ What time did you finally depart? And how much did you manage to scam onto Robert’s room bill? ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† ๐Ÿ˜† I only managed 2 bottles of southern comfort and a bathrobe ๐Ÿ™

Edit: 3yr contract thing is a bit of a bummer, especially with the machine only being ยฃ35. Or is that why the machine is ยฃ35? I’ve seen these stamps before, are they the self-inking ones with the plastic surround? If so, lots of money to be made, still not worth tying in for 3yrs though ๐Ÿ˜• Would they not accept a lesser term or sell the machine without the area contract?

I was fairly easy on the old room tab – Cokes most of the night for me ! Hope Robs not too uset you liberated his bath robe, I think he was hoping for that as a benefit for the extortionate price !
Me and Bob left about the time Rob was draged off by B&P something like 10.30-11pm I think.
Funny you mention the carpark ‘cos the taxi driver in front coudnt get out and by the time he’d sorted it there was a long queue beeping their horns ๐Ÿ˜•

I had to give the concierge war and peace to get out of the car park! ๐Ÿ˜• And I was kind enough to leave Robert his bathrobe, they had spares at reception all neatly wrapped up and ready to liberate ๐Ÿ˜‰ ๐Ÿ˜‰ What made me laugh, remember the guy wandering about in the shorts when we first went in? He was still wandering around when Pete and I were leaving! Must’ve been a long gym session ๐Ÿ˜‰

Oh, and I haven’t eaten all day, I’m savouring my golden sandwich (least I assume it had some gold in it at that price!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ )

Ah yes the guy behind the desk did seem to have a slightly loose grasp of the english language, I found a bit of sign language helped ๐Ÿ˜€

The guy in the shorts must have finally gone by the time we left – either that or he had gone back in the gym for another go !

I’m playing catch-up now I’m a day behind and still working hard now (well no so hard I can’t read a post or two ๐Ÿ˜‰ )

    catch you later….

    Back in Stockholm!,

Just thought I would post to say I had a really good time at Sign UK, would love to have seen less digital and more traditional, but then its not a Letterheads meet.

I really enjoyed meeting people from different signgroups, its fun meeting up in real life, I met up with Dewi and co first, and then Fat Bob, Chalkie, Sparky, Steve Thurlow, Steve Broughton, Phil Fenton, then Robert, and Magpie? from Victory Signs, I picked up lots of info on LED’s but didn’t make it to the seminar, me and Fat Bob spent awhile racing around getting info on different things, thanks for that and the stamp ๐Ÿ™‚

I went back to Mid-Wales (my old home) and the sheep wednesday night, and called in again for 2 hours on the way back to Stansted, met up with Rob and Steve B, and heard Lamby was looking for me….I couldn’t hang around more, I got to Stansted with not much time to spare!

    Anyway I had a good time….thanks
