    Hi all
Ok, im going to pester you all again. This time its for uploads to the site.
What I mean is this. I know perfectly well tons of you have your own website/web space, & I know you keep your images of your work there.
Fair enough.. What I am trying to say here is.. This site has taken on a new server as we all know. We have tons of web space and tons of bandwidth. What I would like to add is that if you want to show something/anything (within reason) on this website that you upload it to our servers. No no no I don’t mean copyright work or anything like that. I just mean something like a design you need help on, a funny sign you find on the web. A digital print that you need done.. Anything that relates to the post being made should be loaded on the sites own server. WHY?
Ill try explain… I am, and will be over the next week or so, fine tweaking the site and cleaning up the forums. Already I have noticed posts with broken links to images.
When I right click on 9/10 of them the properties show that the person actually posting hosted the pictures on their own site and not the boards. Months later, They forget they posted the image here & delete it or move it from their webspace. In turn, this makes the post useless to the next person reading it. Simply because the image has gone!
I know many “budget sign sites” try sway you from using their webspace or simply do not allow uploads, or keep them there for long. Here, I would like to be different. I want your images with questions based on them. I want anything sign related loaded here. This will ultimately make the site bank the biggest amount of help files/posts ever.
This is what I want to steer towards.
If you have any other idea of how to improve the boards I am all ears & I will do my best to provide.
Lets have some suggestions please? I don’t mind how daft they may sound or how expensive you may think it will cost to incorporate the idea here. I want to know!

Thank you for taking the time to read this.. I awaite any replies posted or emailed.
    Thank you 😉

I am actually one of those guilty of leaving small red x’s. I changed webhost before christmas, and lost my old site and links in the process. I was paying alot and had been for the last 6 years for a webhotel here with a Swedish company, but have now moved to a better and cheaper alternative.

Have tried to reload alot of images…but now, they are all on an image folder on my site, some where not before, so making the links work is a little difficult.

So sounds like a good idea….its fun to have access to large info resources on BB’s on the net, and frustrating to search old old posts and find images missing.

    Hi Henry
You are very right mate.. Great resource “horrid index” if that’s the way to describe.
I have a little plan for this very soon on the home page. Something I hope works…
As soon as we have the new server and all up to scratch I will reveal.. should not be long now!
As for your images… well.. They are sorely lost in my eyes. But heck… I am sure you will have them loaded again at some point. Thanks in advance mate.
Before I go onto something else. I would like to add that your panel swap entry on letterheads has recently spurred me to cough up and register properly as a resident on letterheads website, had a lovely warm welcome from barb and steve shortreed.
I love seeing this type of work and envy the likes of this when I see it…
I don’t ever see me being the Dave smith or Steve broughton of tomorrow with regards of traditional methods, not even close! But I would love to give all these aspects of our trade a go. Its fun, if nothing else..

Another thing… your router. What is the outcome? Any further forward?
    😕

regarding links mate… just click on the file in your folder and upload here. 😉

The letterhead site has been a great help to me over the years…I first registered there in 96 on the original BB which changed to a UBB board in 98…time flies.

Will try to find some extra time to repost my old images with new links.

As for the router…I have had great support from AXYS, and their distributor here in Sweden, even though neither was to blame for the accident, it has worked out in the end.

I found out that the old 4008 wasn’t dropped by a fork truck, but was reloaded from a british trailer to a 24m Swedish truck, the fork truck driver told the truckdriver to be careful as it was on wheels…he pulled forward in full view of the main DHL offices and the router flew out the back of the trailer and landed with a bump….alarming when it was ordered direct transport..same truck from AXYS UK to us here in Stockholm.

Anyway the new one arrived earlier last week and was installed thursday and friday…so its all very fresh!

They have a good technician here who’s been great, and I had alot of help from Stuart at AXYS before taking the plunge!

I now have a 4010 with 3m table. Here it is taken yesterday minus the side panels and just after running a test.

Haven’t had so much time over recently for posting sorting all this out and dealing with home and a heavily pregnant misses! 🙂

    Stuart at AXYZ?
Are we talking the UK Stuart at AXYZ? If so.. I cannot fault the guy. Genuine bloke & very very considerate. He showed me how to work my AXYZ millennium at our place & also sold us the machine at sign UK a few years ago. I am sure you will love the machine Henry.
I know how creative you are so add that to the technology you now have and I sit back and Waite for a new atom bomb!!! 😛 😆 😆

You just reminded me to pop onto their stand at sign UK. Thank you!
    😉

The original table was a 4008 1500mm x 2560mm I now have a 4010 which is 1500mm x 3050mm, I have a single Becker vacuum pump, I don’t have the spec here at home but its about 9kw motor, not sure of the effect but things stick well!

I ordered it with 10hp Elte spindle, lube system for cooling, s-mouse and brush foot, am using Toolpath at the moment connected to Signlab e6 their Toolpath studio is an OEM version of Signlab 5, so I might get an extra site licence for that, or wait until they match it to e6, waiting on a price from Stuart in the UK.

Also got a full version of Artcam Pro 6 here with dongle for a couple of months evaluation, but feel its abit pricey at the moment about £6000!

I like the features, but have 2 Gerber Omega workstations and Signlab, which all adds up to alot of money in software.

ive dabbled with artcam, but felt it was over my head.. done the same with type 3 and found it pretty easy… maybe just me, i dont know?
type 3 comes in modules & starts at about £500 (i think) but you will probably find that the only thing you need is 3d capabilities. (well that i found) was that toolpath comes with most of it already.
what toolpath doesnt come with is the 3D routering capabilities.
type 3 does. i am positive AXYZ or Axyz UK are reps for type 3. maybe worth asking stuart if he can give you at a discounted price? 🙄
this is just my feelings after looking at some 3d software packages.
the worst i found in price was “mastercam” software in mudules, full software package £17,000
    ??? whats that all about?
i remember the guy calling me back repeatedly after i called him for a brochure. he hand delivered it and drove 1 hour to do so.. sadly for him i was walking out the door when he arrived.. good job for me.. ide have fainted at the price.

i think the full package (all modules) for type 3 was £5000
that was 3 years ago at least.. probably cheaper these days 😉

A suggestion with regards to using that masses of web space available now 😉 Why not have an open databank of images, logos, fonts and other useful files that can be added to by members? A bit like clipart.com, but sign-related.

Could have catergories and sub-catergories which clearly mark what’s inside. Very similar to the file forum, but instead of having requests or other posts, just simply the files for viewing/download.

Any good or unworkable? I realise it’d take alot to setup and the copyrights thing could be a bit nightmarish, but it’d be a valuable resource to add to the site.

    Cheers, Dewi
