need help tinting vehicle windows?
Posted by popcornpro on 28 February 2004 at 13:51Hi,
My wee brother has just got his first car and asked me to tint the windows. I have read the tutorial and fancy having a shot…hey not my motor!
So, where would be the best place to purchase this? I have been searching online and only found Ebay suppliers but I am sure there must be a general supplier in the UK!
I understand no-one is recommending anyone here, just looking for pointers!
Cheers,
Rich

Or there’s Stockfilms. I don’t have their number to hand but could let you have it on Monday.
Or Doro on 01858 431642. http://www.dorotape.co.uk

Don’t forget there was recent new legislation about the tinting of car windows Rich – worth bearing in mind so he doesn’t get pulled over and done for it 😉

I tint cars on a regular basis, I use Suntek films available from vinyl logistics, their number is 01636 613 222, the film is very easy to work with, shrinks well and has a good selection of cheap to high quality films.
Beware of dyed films, they turn purple after a couple of years, for a little more you can get a metallized film which will not fade for as long as he has the car.
If you want more info email me, mod-edit what car is it as some rear screens such as new shape clio and 206 are very difficult to do.
Hope that helps

A tip for doing the back windows where compound curves are involved. If you are inside lay the film acetete sideup on the outside of the back window (cos thats the way it will fit inside) and apply gentle heat on the film (I use infra red drying lamps) you will find that the film takes on the shape of the window, you will have about 30/45 minutes to get it on without roll ups or waves. Where poss remove door glass its not as hard as you think, my son in law who has his own garage does it for me and we can tint a full car in about 2 hours including edge sealing.

i watched the guy do my 206 rear window.
he cut the film roughly the right size and layed it on the rear window the wrong way around.
heated it up so it shrunk to the shape of the glass.
then cut it better,
then he stuck it on the inside of the window. cut it in half horizontal and applied more heat.
it was all over in 10 mins.
great job.
no bubbles.
suntek rings a bell. -
I use Johnson Films from the US have tried Zenith and SunGard but like Johnson the best, use a great silicon plough from Spehar, you can get them and help from http://www.tintwizardinc.com
There are loads of tips and time saving techniques for dry shrinking etc etc, we’re about to leave and fix logos/stripes etc on a 24m truck…but you can call if you get stuck!
