Recognise this Font ?
Posted by Nigel Fraser on 16 February 2004 at 18:37Any help tracking down this exact font would be greatly appreciated. The closest I have is one called Trebuchet and the font identifier site has failed me on this one too.
I have over 600 signs to typeset and print for 20+ doctors surgeries using this type. The NHS spending our money wisely courtesy of the new disablities act ! Really need to get started asap as they want them proofed soon. Thanks in advance,
Nigel
P.s. if anyone has got a copy and wants to mail it over that would be even better 😀 nigel@creativesign.co.uk

Sorry no help on that yet, but just a note to any signmakers reading that this disabilities act should be giving loads of work out to anyone that can do braille work. My partner works for a charity helping blind people and all signs in public buildings have to have the braille equivilant. (you probably all already know it though) 😳

Nigel,
I did a lot of work for the NHS years ago and when they specified some rare font like this there was always some designer somewhere who could provide it. I think your best bet is to try to track it through your customer. I know this is obvious and you’ve probably already tried it but it’s easier than spending 10 years on the internet trying to match it. That font isn’t particularly easy to find as it has no redeeming features.I have, in the past, simply scrolled through some of the commercial websites’ lists but you get a bit blind to it after a while.
Not much help really, am I?

the onlt way to be sure is to obtain from sources, either the commissioning agent, customer or original designer, any of these would expext this & should be happy to do so.

Yep, I think you might be right guys. I was just holding out some hope that someone would say “oh yeah it’s blah blah…..” and I would have it sorted ! Guess I will have to make enquiries tomorrow – just the thought of typesetting all of these is putting me off now, specially with my spelling/typing skills 😥
thanks anyway,
Nigel

It may be a long shot but, I presume your customer is going to provide you with a list. If so, they may be able to give you a .txt or Word file on disk. Most packages will accept an imported .txt file. I’ve done this in the past and saved myself hours of typing.
Just a thought.

Thanks mate – nice plan but I already have the 12 pages of handwritten instructions lying on my floor (where I threw it in dispair 😥 )
How I’m going to find time to do this job by the end of the week as well as all the others is just beyond me atm – ah well tomorrows another day 😉

The font actually looks to be FF Meta
http://www.myfonts.com/fonts/fontfont/ff-meta/book-roman/testdrive.html?s=Consulting+Room+M1&p=72I don’t have this font so I can’t help you out there. You might be able to find a knockoff of it somewhere, or with 600+ signs to do is there enough margin to buy a legit copy?
Maybe you could offer the client the old “I can do it in this font at the price quoted, but to provide an exact match I’ll have to charge (at least part of) the purchase price of the font.”

Richard,
Thanks, thats great – looks like you found it ! Unfortunately I seem to have picked one of the most expensive fonts around at $265 per version 😥
I did look for a replica on the web but so far no joy – these things are sent to try us 😉Thanks for helping out anyway,
Nigel

Thanks Patrick, but they’re still $241 per version 😕

Nigel,
Did you ever sort this one?
I have just received a file from the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospital and it isn’t the same font as yours. for instance, it has no curly bit on the top of the “n”, it’s just straight.
