Heres a brilliant simple idea which I found out today. I have just been using a new fitter for some of my vinyl work over the last couple of days. He is a bit of a "wrap" specialist when it comes to vinyl.
Anyway, he reckons 3M gold squeegies are hard to beat but when fitting vinyl with no tape over it simply get some s/a velcro (fluffy side) and stick a 3" strip of it on the edge of your squeegie – much like the new avery blue ones around at the moment but much harder wearing and you simply replace it when it worn out. He says it never marks the vinyl surface and the initial results look pretty good 😀

    I wish I’d thought of that 😉

    bloomin bloomin bloomin 👿
thats one im using right now! 😮

WELL, NOT REALLY BUT SAME CONCEPT..
we have a great (very thin) double sided tape in work. i have taken a 3m gold and on the edge applied the tape. i then take a cutting of decent grade cotton. im using old denim jeans cut up. applied it to the edge of the squeegee over the tape. the trick is to go off the edge of the squeegee eather side. about 3 mm.. this helps stop scuffs of the corner of the nylon. the idea behind the avery ones is very good. but they are pretty crap after 30min application.
i only really use this type of squeegee for flat panel work though and is great for vinyl applications without tape. 😉

I have been doing this for years, not on a squeegee but on the bottom of the jigsaw to stop it scratching Foamex and mounted prints.
I will have to have a go at the squeegee, good idea

    Brilliant!

    Great Idea 😀 (-)

I was thinking along those lines of fitting some kind of felt to squeegees but didn’t want to use glue

This sounds so simple cheap and easy to do

Suppliers do want a lot of money for what amounts to a bit of plastic or felt

I do the same as rob but use a good quality velvetI tried the velcro and found that it did scratch dark vinyls. Also it did not seem to give enough pressure the way I work.
