  • what short term banner should i use?

Posted by MJ Designs on 28 January 2004 at 01:16

    Hi,

I need to make a banner that will be used for a maximum of 2 months at a time, would I be OK using Oracal 751 for this or would it be worthwhile in buying the special banner vinyl?

I plan on changing the vinyl on the banner every couple of months, will it be easy to remove the old vinyl and will the surface be OK to apply a new design?

    Thanks,

    Gareth

For temporary Banners I use Tekton from Dorotape. Better known as Tyvek it’s an indestuctible olefin (!) or plasticy type paper. It’s 38″ deep and comes in rolls of 50 and 100 yds. Very strong and cheap too! A 4 metre x 965mm deep (12’x3′) Banner with fittings for £7.44 😀

It will accept any vinyl which is easily removed and can simply be cut off of the roll to any length and hung with Banner Ups, self adhesive grommets.

BUT in answer to your question I’ve used standard vinyl on plasticised banners and it’s ok for a few weeks but wouldn’t use it for longer.

I think I would play safe and use banner vinyl designed for the job, incidentally Victory (and I’m sure others) supply banner base material on a 25m roll X 610mm – pre eyeletted and welded top and bottom, just cut off the length you need – very handy for the panic jobs.

    Hi!
    On cheapo poly-banners I use
Oracal 651. It has a nice gloss &
is not too bad to remove.
I get my poly banners from Davey.
I never use those shiny crap banners
that Pepsi etc., gives to clients as a freebie.
I don’t even think chewing gum
    would stick to them!
    Good Luck…Love JILL

I’m with ya on this one Jillbeans….
Use 651 a lot on banners – some been up for 7-8 mths with no ill effects!
Only for short term though – use Oracal bannervinyl for the proper banners.
    cheers

    Cheers for the replies.

I’ll be wanting to use the banner again and agin just change the vinyl on it every now and again.

I was planning on buying the Grafibanner material from Grafityp, has anyone used this? Any good? I only need 3 metres for now and seen as it’s my first banner job I don’t really want to go to the expense of buy a long roll of it so this seems ideal.

    Cheers,

    Gareth

proper banner vinyl doesnt really have a long life. about 2 years max i think.

lots of good suppliers do banner vinyl, amari, cox, victory etc. your a UKSG member so you can buy a minimum order of 5metres of oracal banner vinyl very easily. they have lots of great shades also.
