how do you work with diamond grade vinyls?
Just got some samples of the honeycomb grade 1 stuff for a possible private ambulance job. Is it supposed to be so thick? How do you work with this stuff?

It depends what you want to do with it. You won’t cut it on a regular plotter. You will need a flat bed, capable of dye cutting probably. Any exposed edges should also be sealed to prevent water ingress into the cells. This can be done with a uv stable lacquer or by ultrasound or crushing for example. If you want to cut it by hand I recommend cutting it on the reverse and snapping it along the cut line.
When fitting, apply dry. You get one chance only; if you pull it back to reposition the white cellular bottom layer will stay put and you will have a sheet of clear polycarb in your hand. Also it is not at all conformable, avoid all compound curves. Even if it looks OK on the day of fitting, a day or two later it can pop off.
One tip to make fitting a LOT easier is to laminate the material to some white or clear regular vinyl before cutting. This gives you the option of being able to reposition whilst fitting.
Apart from all that, it’s a piece of cake. 😉
