Andy, what do you mean when you say “not much luck” ?
I use Conform R4075 paper tape for most stuff, it is nice to apply and doesn’t curl up at the edges. I also use a clear politape for multi coloured laying up or tricky registration jobs, but I dont like it much, it goes all rippled when you take the vinyl out into different temps, or damp weathers.
I would steer clear of any really cheap types.

Hi andy, what problems are you having with your tape? what tape are you using high or low tack or clear?

It’s difficult to find a good one. Too sticky and you can mess up a whole order if it gets stuck on a bit of lettering when you’re putting it on. Not sticky enough and you can end up having trouble getting it to lift the vinyl from the substrate. Then you have the papers that rip in to little bits when you try to peel it off after application.
I don’t know the best tape but we currently use Hexis 122 which seems a good all rounder.

yep, we use conform as well
as Nigel says, it doesn`t lift up on the edges, so it is great for decals supplied for DIY fit or mail order.

Hi there!
I use Conform Series by R-Tape.
It comes in a lot of widths, and even I can use it.
Once a supplier talked me into a clear, reuseable tape.
Seemed like a good idea but it was a nightmare!
I’d still rather paint.
Love & Good Luck…

so conform would probably be the best option for us?! 😀 so far we have been using ‘A-Tape’ which covers superbly but tears way too easily, the we tried mactac which stuck too easily when taping up text not allowing for any minor adjustments, and then when it came to lefting the text up it was like it had no adhesive at all!!
and most recently we bought some perfectear, which i suppose is anh average all rounder, but we need sumthing just that little bit better.finally, where could we purchase some conform, as it seems like everyone is agreeance that is a good tape 🙂
thanks for your help 🙂

I use the Unitac tape from Victory Design, competitively priced and always performed ok for what I wanted. I tried Conform and although a good tape more expensive but then I am a bit tight with money.

Andy I use a Maintape product called Perfect tear, its the 75 series. There are two types I use the conform 7575(?) excellent for the vehicle livery etc and the cheeper 7557(?) which is stiffer for general sign work. Both don’t curl up at the edges just the right amount of tack (for me anyway) and I get a good price from Andersons beat Victory price no problem.
Not too sure on the numbers but they will help you.
Cheers

Since I started making signs application tape has been minefield for me too, I was using hexis which was ok then Mactac which I thought was better then tried unitac from Victory which I thought was terrible. I am back to Mactac now.
I came to realise that apllication tape is as much to do with the way use it as the tape itself, no doubt you all do this but I have only really discovered this over the last few months and will tell you anyway just in case. I dont lift the application tape off the vinyl backing I turn it over and take the backing of the tape it comes of a lot easier (this way you can use lowtack with ease) and the vinyl is never distorted. Once the vinyl is applied I soak the paper and it comes off with no hassle at all never pulling at the vinyl you can rip it of ruthlessly with no ill effect (dont quote me).
This however does not seeem to work with frosted glass so if anyone can recomend a paper that is good with Frosted please let me know or a better frosted glass.

thanks guys, i bought 2 logs of conform R-tape 7575 [i think] and yeah, a rather pleasing tape, nice strong adhesive, and feels of a good quality, my only gripe is that it is a little thin, so i guess ill have to change my application technique 😛 😆
