  • WANTED – Funfair Images

    Posted by ajm033 on 30 December 2003 at 02:10

    Hello, I’m new here.

I’m looking for any/as many types of funfair images as possible. In particular, rollercoaster cars, big wheel, dodgems. Anything really, as I’ve got nothing just now.

    Thanks

Not sure about ready made artwork, you could buy a copy of the Worlds Fair there is quite good coverage in there of rides, and their owners.

Alot of fairground people used to spend the winter in Gloucester just by the river on the road out towards Ross-on-Wye.

Search on Google under images that often turns up some interesting stuff.

I have an old friend in Hereford Hughies Signs, Hughie Gardner, he used to spercialise in handpainting fairground rides.

I still have an old Showmans wagon myself its a Brayshaw built in Leeds many years ago, mollycroft roof cut class interior, with wood panelling and gold leaf, it a about 30ft long and used to be pulled by a Scammell Highwayman or Pioneer.

I met a guy at Roundhay park in Leeds while working for Springsteen in the mid 80’s who had a later model (50’s) Brayshaw wagon and we got talking about the Brayshaw family!…anyway thats abit off topic.

I ‘ll try and think of other things during the day, I had a link to a guy that paints some pretty wild fairground stuff, not sure where that is.

Hello. My name is Andrew (far more personal than ajm033)!

I have copies of the Worlds Fair here, but I was more looking for vector art for vinyl cutting rather than images for printing (sorry, I don’t think my first post was very clear).

    Anyway the search goes on.

    Regards
    😀

    Andrew,

Hi there, and another welcome !

I don’t have any of the fairground stuff on file but you could try this link –

    http://office.microsoft.com/clipart/default.aspx

and do a clipart search under… amusement parks, bumper cars, carnivals, entertainment, fairs or rides etc.
I had a brief look and there are some here but dont know if its what you want. The files are in WMF format, so they can be cut but most need a good tidy up 1st as with most clipart.

    catch you later….

    Nigel

    Hi Andrew!
I did a Google Image Search on 3 local amusement parks, some over 100 years old, and came up with several cool photos of things. Try these names:
    Kennywood Park
    Conneaut Lake Park
    Idlewild Park
Just Google ’em & see what pops up! I did try one other name, West View Park, but only came up with a copyrighted roller-coaster lithograph.
    Good Luck!
    Love- JILL

There is also a font called carnival days, if you do a search on “carnival dingbat font” at google it will come up on the first link.

Thanks for all your help. I’ve found the Microsoft clip art gallery helpful, but as was said, the images do need a bit of work.

If there’s anything else, keep it coming, but in the meantime, thanks again.

    Regards
    🙂
