  what are peoples views on PC60 and should i buy one?

  I want to dip my toes into Colour printing, have been farming out all my Colour work so far.

  Ive been offered an Ex-Demo Roland PC60 for £3500 +VAT. The Price includes Someone coming to my Workshop and setting up the Machine and showing me the basics.

  Ive seen the Versacamm, but don’t want to spend 10K on something that i may not get the full use off.

  What do you think?

  Look very closely at the running costs of this machine. If the suppliers don’t lower the prices of consumables, then these machines are going to become obsolete pretty quickly with the likes of the versacamm becoming available

  If you are going to be printing and contour cutting lots of small labels/decals then this a great machine, if not a little expensive to run like Phill says. If you have the intention of printing things larger than approx 300mm square I would forget it, most picky customers get sniffy about the ‘banding’ that you do tend to get with larger prints. Having said that we do wide format solvent printing, and I would never contemplate getting rid of our PC-60 it’s priceless.

  Another thing would be if you do decide to go for it make sure that you have a decent service contract, the head is only generally good for 8000 – 12000 metres (although we have ones last 25000 metres) and without a contract can be very expensive to replace.

  Value for a Roland PC60 £2,500 max to include 12months head warranty
  Value for a Roland PC600 £3,5K to £4.5K to incl. 12months head warranty
  These values now consider the Roland VersCamm introduction

  Print Heads WILL go.
  Reasons:
  1. Grit particles on the vinyl. Clean with Isopropanol prior to printing
  2. Metallic particles rubbed from print head casting past print head
  A different ribbon path is now used by print One to avoid this.
  A service contract with Roland would be sensible for this purpose.

  Consumables.
  Original CMYK from Roland and Roland distributors @ about £11 each
  Renown CMYK from Print One @ about £6 plus spot colours, metallics

  Service – Roland will support service for your machine for years to come
  Renown – Will support consumables for your machine for years to come

  Dollar Bill is correct in saying that PC60 is only for printing and cutting small decals and should be avoided for larger print work. At £2.5K it is a good buy and very usefull, and you can print direct to the machine just like a desk top without getting involved with awkward software.
