HEAT TAPE
We are looking into sublimation printing as an add on to our business. I have seen heat tape mentioned a couple of times in the process. Does this work in the same way as application tape for vinyl?
Are there any demonstrations available on the boards showing the sublimation process or is there likely to be one?

Hi John,
Heat tape is basically a tape that is resistant to heat. It is used in transfer printing to keep your images in place. i.e it stops the image falling off or moving when your trying to press it. The fact that its resistant to heat means it doesn’t leave any stickyness behind after being pressed and removed. Always use proper heat tape and nothing else especially not masking tape makes a right mess, as i found out to my cost when new to transfer printing

now there is something i forgot all about.. heat tape!
i remember when i was doing my apprenticeship, we did t-shirt printing & a few other different types of promotional stuff..
i used the heat tape daily.. was one of my first jobs.. sticking the prints in position. “ahhh the memories!” 😀
is it still the .5 inch wide red stuff? or is there loads these days..handy stuff.. 😉 oh yeh.. dont use selotape.. 😮 right mess i made of some sweaters 😳 😆

the red stuff i use is about 5mm and by far the best in my opinion.
though i think there is blue stuff too, same as red just blue i think 🙄 .
Don’t use the stuff with the concertina backing paper you peel off it’s rubbish

The good thing about it is you get about 5 mile on a roll for tuppence in old money! Sorry, I’ll retract that. It seems expensive but a roll will last for ages……… 😕

Another important factor with heat tape is definately match it to the manufacturer or supplier of your mugs. I learnt this when I changed to Listawood. Used the heat tape I had from NovaChrome and it left marks on the Listawood mugs. Changed to their tape – problem solved.
Works the other way too – tried Listawood tape with NovaChrome metal – marks remained. Used NC tape no marks.

heat tape can be reused specially if you work with metal, plastic, ceramic…
Now it will last for a decade… 😛
