quote Dermot Howard:Hi Neil.
Unfortunately I have no pics as it is not up out of the ground yet. We are still shopping with banks, we have a few offers on the table but interest rates are varying between 5.49% & 2.4%. It is decision time on Friday week or sooner. With myself being self-employed it was not as easy as thought but my new wife of 7 months is an accountant and that really helped with the banks plus I owned the site and up till not I have been mortgage free, it will kill me to have one, buts that’s life we all have to do it.
I’m not sure if I will be able get the height (what height is yours) as the council want me to keep it low, like a regular garage as it is being built at the house. However the site falls back and I am thinking that I might dig it in a bit and the fall will allow us to go up a little and it won’t be so noticeable.
I am working on some ideas and will post them soon; in the mean time here is the house and the outline of the workshop area. We will be trying to keep it in the old style like yourself, blend the house and the workshop together.
I think john is right with keeping the printers/plotters etc on the ground floor. And I love Neil’s Sliding Sash windows, a bit more expensive but I think worth it. We are hoping to put them in the house, nearly twice time the price of standard windows over here.P.S/ No attachments as i cant see the attach button?? Where is it?
dermot i cant remember off hand the height but if i remember right the door is about 15′ high . I thought long and hard about putting all the equipment on the ground floor but heating was my main worry so all will be upstairs .My brother is an aircon engineer so he has kitted it out with a nice aircon system for me I know ill have to go up and down but to be honest i could do with the excercise :lol1: . However as john said a glass partition could be a good idea and keep it all on the ground .
The sliding sash ad slates and finish etc are the same ones we just used for the house as im tryin to keep it all blending in . Looking foward to seeing your pics as i love to see other peoples places for ideas . -
quote Peter Normington:looks very smart Neil,
Do you want to sell it!Peter
no peter but if ive any money left when its done i’ll be back on to you about that printer , i havent forgot 😉

That sounds about a similar size as my new workshop im currently building. Ive built it with office etc upstairs covering half the building leaving the other half for tall lorries etc. As you can see it still leaves room for a crafter and a sprinter side by side. Still a bit to go yet though , but were getting there . Any pics of yours ?

Hey fergal . Hello from another NI member .

Cheers Peter . I owe you one 😉

Just back home tonight after doing the Wrapping course. Very beneficial course to do even if you’ve been fitting vinyl for years . Its great to learn how to properly use a squeegee. We learned alot from James and I look forward to putting it into practice , considering at one stage i thought it was not for me as it seemed impossible LOL. but with alot of practice 😉 I might just get the hang of it . First thing i need is to get a paint disclaimer as during the course we stripped paint and lacquer off parts of 3 cars 😮 . Its all good though. Met some fantastic guys there also , keep in touch lads .

Martin in agree what your saying if id been at the computer id have quickly drawn it up for him. He pointed at my van and said roughly like that so if i see it with only back panels or something i will tell him accordingly what I could have done it for as I know him well enough to do so . Time will tell. Maybe i’ll get a shock. (:)
-
Firstly a couple of points id like to make . Gavin the layout was nothing like your one panel design . He wants it on the complete side not one panel and back doors and bonnet . He used my van as an example and said about the same amount of text etc as i have on mine . Ive worked from home myself for years now and have only just last year built my new workshop so please anyone that works from home dont think im saying homeworkers are cowboys as id include myself in that category. (the home-worker not cowboy that is lol) :lol1:

Rob i know i thought i was being generous only quoting £200 as i knew him . Hopefully hes back to me next time with a horror story lol.

Fascinating … It looks almost to good to be true. Im definitely buying some malt vinegar tomorrow to try this out.

quote James Bell:Hi Brian
Sorry to kidnap the thread… i was after 2 copies of the outlines books.
I talked to someone at your company, and was asked to email a request.
I’ve sent two, and haven’t heard anything (this was before xmas)
How do I get hold of them?
Thanks
James
James ring them and they will sort you out . I phoned today and Brian emailed the outline i needed instantly. Superb service .
-
yes brian i need a hyundai terracan 4×4 asap but i cant find one in your new book or on mr cliparts site. Any available ? I’ll keep trying on the phone as the line is busy. cheers
-
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome 😀
-
Thats good to hear rob . I look foward to finding out more.
-
Just got this news myself today as im supposed to be buying a Mimaki jv33 in the not so distant future . Anyway when he rang me this afternoon he said that I should order before the end of the month as they are going up £1000 and the free extraction kit is now optional making a total increase of £1795 . 😮 😮 .

quote Gary Birch:We all have customers we make more profit on than we do on others. If things are quiet and you have overheads to cover then offer a discount, I wouldn’t go with the offer he made you though. Probably 10% for payment up front like has been mentioned before. If he leaves with a smile on his face it could be worth 3-4 referrals, and that is a small cost to pay.
I personally would rather lose 10% on a van than be sat idle with overheads still needing to be paid anyway.
Cheers
Gary
likewise gary . Id offer a small discount if i wasnt too busy that week, as every job can possibly lead to more mork in the future.

quote Robert Lambie:Welcome to the forum neil, good to have you here and thank you for taking the time to load your picture as well as take on a full membership.
good to hear you are moving forward with things…which wrap course are you doing? just asking as uksg has a course being done in ireland over the next couple of weeks.
Yes thats the one Rob. Its with James Deacon i think his name is . It was actually here that I found out about it so i’m extremely grateful for that as i was considering travelling to your side of the pond to do one.
-
Looking good . Its cool to see it going from design to reality.

quote Gavin MacMillan:I wouldn’t be too concerned about his safety, almost every sane person on the planet has wanted rid of GWB but nobody killed him, Obama is pretty safe i’d guess.
!I reckon with this to cruise about in he’ll be grand. Read the spec on this thing it awesome. I’d have chosen something nicer looking myself though.
-
Paul thats lovely , did you have the fold down sides for the rear. Looks cool anyway though.
-
Ive had this problem several times myself including one man who started to started to get cross until I had to show him on the laptop how ridiculous he was being, he soon mellowed out when he realised he was wrong. :lol1: :lol1:
-
Just found another pic. Start them young eh….
-
Peter he pestered me for the sticker so i made it. some people try to make them look old as thats what they like . Who are we to question. Personally i prefer a nice shiney paintjob and thats why my van has one and went from a rusting wreck to a restored , painted , retrimmed finished van.
From this
to this which we use on a weekly basis and the kids love it like one of the family.
-
:lol1: Peter you wouldnt understand . Its a dub thing …

quote Peter Normington:quote Neil Wilkinson:quote John Thomson:Nice collection…….love the split windows stance……how much has it been lowered?
John
Cheers john my bros splitty is on airbag suspension all round so can be raised or lowered any height. It also runs a decent motor with twin carbs etc. wish my bus was as fast.

Heres a wee pic of the faded style lettering i cut in vinyl for him so it looked old. what a pain it was to weed :lol1: and it was a family freebie job which is worse.

Andy
Id like to know this myself as ive a couple of uses for it if so.

I do all the boards round my local pitch and have done for the past few years . Basically i have a set price for them and sometimes its better for me than others but its always worth doing. Plus I can have my own board up free as i told them they are getting a discounted rate. this alone has got me loads of other jobs so was a nice wee perk . worth a try.
-
Nice new impact disc on its way to me . Cheers brian :lol1:

quote Brian Hays:There have been plenty of posts about outlines lately mate!

The kerning off, outline a bit ‘dated’ as already said, the ALL CAPS aspect ‘tries too hard’ and the horizontal lines don’t convey or add much to the overall ‘feel’.
Will have a play myself – no point in offering crit if I can’t offer some ideas!!
Dave
Dave i like the second one i think it looks great.
