Looks stretched so I think Harry is right. The down strokes are thicker which usually points to stretching.

I do have one of our own designs up on here though… -
I have a version I drew from original stock, want it sent via email?
EPS OK?
Mind I got into bother using it from the Vincent Owners Club who apparently have the rights….Malk

looks great, very eye catching but I got pulled for having graphics on my front passenger and driver windows….

Appreciate all the advice, being someone who is used to just supplying the signs and not fitting them I was always destined to make mistakes so thanks to those who took the time to actually explain my mistakes and what I can do to sort them.
cheers
MalkPS Rob what the hell are you doing up at 1.23am on a Thursday!!

MalkNo hanging rail then – just slipped into the frame? Will just be sagging under its own weight…
For PVC hangers – Gluing a 10mm strip of the same PVC to the sheet with superglue (bonds amazingly well) works a treat.
Yep, just slid into frame already there. Glued a strip top to bottom to keep the centre in place, looks OK.

Hope you go for this style as I’d love to see it on a car!! I did my truck a while back and even though it got slated by many, it did wonders for the business as everyone knew the guy in the “hotwheels truck”

Malk, i love trucks, can we see your truck? or is it on here somewhere?
Liam
here it is before I stripped it and had to sell it!! sniff, broke my heart!
Thanks Malk,
love the front view, bet you was gutted to sell that. I am currently torn between getting a van or a truck. Van = more practical, truck = looks cooler.cheers

Shouldn’t paint everyone with the same brush you know, we’re not all the same! Some of them do take note and ask what I need.
-
cool site innit?
-
I love it, I think the whole punch in the face attitude of it is quite splendid!
I think Shane has hit it on the head, try some comic book style fonts, have you heard of this website:
lot’s of free fonts and ideas on there. That will get you noticed and that, to me, is what wrapping was created to do.

my missus does a load of these skins for games consoles and phone, I’ll ask if she has the guitar templates on file.

I’d be very careful though as if anything happens with non-payment then there’s not a lot you can do to get it back. I learned the hard way, working with a friendly ( or so I thought ), quite well known Ice Hockey club, they shafted me royally even after I had flew over personally so they wouldn’t get a huge fine when the US customs cocked up!!
Sometimes the customs charges are very high as well and don’t forget to put little stickers on the items you’re selling saying they were made in the UK.

I recently had some problems with ITL inks, the promise being they would slot straight in without flushing old inks etc! The problems started when doing the sides of a box van, the colours just wouldn’t match so thought the head had dropped a colour or something similar but no, it was the inks slowly mixing with the originals but even with the manufacturers profiles, the colours were bloody awful and just looked bad (a sepia print came out khaki! and the black always had a slight blue tinge to it)
Have now flushed them out and gone back to Roland originals, just don’t think it’s worth saving the money if it means all this hassle.Malk

Dave
I got one of those from a local company in the North East, worst £600 I’ve ever spent! I probably waste more prints due to the laminate crinkling or moving than I bought it for!! Save up and get a decent one, I’m looking for one now if anyone has anything for sale?

Gill supplied me with some of that and it’s working really well, even on the very curvy wings.
-
agree with Mr Rogers, it’s not worth the money in my opinion, most people I know use Google.
I just put my free one in and am leaving it at that. -
-
I always use the Summa range, virtually indestructible and good cutting results, I wouldn’t scrimp on a cheap cutter that you’ll have to replace a year down the line! At the moment I use a D750 and a S75.
-
you could use square light and just to be pendantic the bottom font is either Swiss or Helvetica, the S’s and A’s don’t have the angle down strokes of Ariel.
oops sorry scrub that, just enlarged it and yes the bottom is Arial…..my bad!! 😳

might be a bit too 50’s chrome looking, I like it though!

MemberAugust 17, 2009 at 11:31 am in reply to: what material would be suitable for laying print under Ice?not something I’ve heard of as all the logos under ice are done with stencils and paint, then the ice is layered on top of that. You would be trying to put the sign on top of ice which I imagine is impossible!
I do a lot of the sponsor boards at our local rink and it’s the only way I’ve seen it done.Malk

No worries, when first starting out it was cold calling, ringing around and using old contacts but now, as she’s built up a good reputation, most of her work comes from recommendations nowadays. She has recently joined the local BNI group but she only gets small amounts of work from that.
Hope that helps

My wife is a freelance designer (has been for around 6 years now) and she finds the best way to get work is leg work I’m afraid. Most of the websites she’s joined or listed on come to nothing or you only get the small, time wasting jobs that want it done for nothing.
Best bet is to tout yourself around I reckon.

"we’re used to paying £17 each – for metal ones"
or " my mate got his done for £*** down the road" in that case, f*** off down the road….
Must admit I used to be the guy David’s just described, rushing around doing cheap jobs to make a couple of quid. I now make a living from this business instead of it running me.
-
thanks, appreciate the comments!
It’s the top one that I reckon was a bit washed out, and the designer (who’s a friend of mine!) blamed the coachbuilder for positioning the window so the skateboarders face was cut out! hahaha :lol1: Gotta love designers!
-
I would have been quoting around £240 for that so I guess that makes me expensive!!
-
nice job but why would you want that? 😮

thanks for the replies, good to know I was on the right track!

Yellow pages is a waste of money IMO, Yell.com is OK but I reckon you can’t beat leg work (unless you look like me and they won’t even let you in the door!! but that’s another story!!)

The only way I know is converting the PDF to a JPG or TIFF then sorting the fonts out separately, if you don’t have the correct font then it will substitute no matter what you do.
-
Used both PC’s and Macs and I have to say when I opened my own place it had to be the Mac, just so much easier to use and a lot less hassle. I don’t think there’s much of a grey area between them anymore.
-
book was bought a few weeks back now and have paid up today for full membership, like I said I joined a year or so back but never got round to using it!
