    "check the electrics"
    "Johns electrics are good" etc.

    only put the apostrophe before the s if you want to say
    "the electric’s switched off now"

    Pete, i thought that the apostrophe was still only used in a name to denote the missing letter, such as "john’s here" or "John’s arrived", john is or john has respectively.

    if the possessive i thought it went after the name and the S wasn’t added. "Johns’ Tackle shop" of "have you seen Johns’ van?"

    perhaps i’m wrong!
