Summa/HP D140? and Flexi unwinding whole roll

I am hoping someone may help me here.
When I am loading a new roll of vinyl into the machine the head moves to the left to pick up the width and then proceeds to unroll the whole roll of vinyl. The online mannual says it should only do the length to match the width of the material.
Also what is I just need to cut a job say 600mm long by 150 high and want to use an off cut at 610 x 300 it says there is not enough media.
Is there a setting somewhere of can i do something in flexi.I only had this delivered yesterday as part of a HP print and cut package. The print and cut side is fine.
