Hi guys, I know I’ve not contributed much on here for ages.. will try harder! but was just wondering, is there a general sewing machine that would be suitable to stick scaffold banners? I don’t get asked much , but will sleep better knowing they are stiched instead of taped… any suggestions? and also what thread I should be looking at? Thanks 🙂

we do banners and mesh banners using the tape for various scaffold companies and have never had a problem.
hemming the sides etc is just the same as normal, but when it comes to the large fold at the top and bottom you make the hem extended to three strips of tape and use banner strengthening tape. then I think our lads reinforce where it would get the most stress with 2 washers and a long neck rivet. they also use a hand roller after the hem is formed to make sure the tape has bonded. quick and easy done…

we do have a banner heat welder, but our lads have never bothered with it for this type of thing as they have never had any issues over the years.

don’t get me wrong, you are not going to do this with BIG banners or scaffold wraps of course. :smiles:

Sewing is ok for heavy duty material but not great for lighter weight banners. It ends up as a perforation line & opens up like a zip in high winds. Used to get an upholsterer mate of mine to sew mine & had no end of problems. I ended up buying a high frequency welder, not the cheapest option but works brilliantly. Maybe find a local guy who has one & bring beers?
