If it’s ground in adhesive, I would dab on plenty of Tar & Glue remover.
let its sit 5 minutes, dab it again soaking it and then scrape off in a dragging motion using a bare Stanley blade or old squeegee. once the gunk has come away, wipe it down with a fresh rag and tar and glue. then complete wiping it down with isopropanol alcohol. You can buy tar and glue remover from most places, even Halfords.
Yes, it will work for that and once cleaned properly, it will not be tacky.
There is a process of cleaning glue, same with vans etc. You use the adhesive remover to break down the glue, remove it, repeat. once happy the majority has been removed, then clean with isopropanol which will clean any residue of the T&G cleaner away, till your left with a spotless surface.
there is plenty of adhesive removers on the market. some better than others. some are weak and smell bad. others smell great but hopeless or diluted. I find the tar&glue one has great strength and low odour. just be sure to keep away from your eyes.
