Does anybody on uksignboards have the set-up to print metallic gold onto clear vinyl?
I am looking for 150mm/80m labels for a gifting company to put on boxes.
The print is too detailed to cut in vinyl.
    Thanks

I think the issue here will be the supplier must be able to print “metallic ink” and also “white ink”.
I am sure there is more, but I only know of Roland printers that print Metallics, but I am unsure if they also have white on board. They do also have contour cutting and perf cut, which is ideal. just unsure on the white for printing onto clear.

Thermal printers such as Summa DC range, can print metalised chromes onto clear and also white, with contour cutting.

However, the million-dollar question is, who on this site has one of these? 🤔🤣

Your right Rob at saying thermal transfer, the gerber edge is still a machine used today.

I know a company called JG Markland based in Newton Le Willows still operate a few edge machines, John is the contact there

I never gave the Gerber Edge or Roland Thermal printers a thought, Graham. I thought they were all long gone! but good call, that maybe an option for you David, contact them, explain you are a sign company but your machines aren’t able to produce these and could they offer you a trade service for this job? I am sure most will accommodate.

Gerber Edge is the weapon of choice for a job like this, I use this on a daily basis especially with the chrome silver and gold (and normal silver & gold), although it’s harder to get the foils at an affordable price nowadays as the aftermarket foils are dwindling leaving just the original foils available at a higher cost.
Bear in mind that these foils are not warranted for any length of time for outdoor use as they will deteriorate rapidly unless they are laminated or domed – I used the mirror silver on my own stickers with a resin doming and I see them regularly on the back of vans I’ve done even 10+ years after application.

Yes I can help if needed.

I’ve just checked now and I still have 10 metres of mirror gold in stock. Maximum printing width is 299.7mm.

The only other foil I can get is from Spandex as all other UK suppliers have discontinued them, they are 15 metres each but quite expensive…
