Not being a big company, I am used to just buying in things as I need them. Things like routered letters, BIG Banners, road signs, chevron kits and more recently sneeze screens! My question is, where do I draw the line? It is Monday and I am out a grand for a minimal markup. now the mark-up is not the problem. but just now I am outsourcing loads of things, and my bills going up. but the money is not coming in the same to compensate. So I am feeling the pressure more now. I hope i am making sense.
It depends on the size of the job and how much of the cost you can/are willing to absorb.
Over a certain price, I now always ask for a 50% deposit or the cost of materials, whichever is the greater.
Doing this means you are never out of pocket for the actual physical cost of the job.
And since people have started opening their businesses after the lockdown, it seems to be more and more difficult to get the money out of customers, even those you have a long standing business relationship with.
