New shape MINI bonnet stripes advice needed.
Posted by Gwaredd Steele on July 6, 2010 at 8:52 amHi all.
Have been asked to supply & fit some stripes to the bonnet & boot of a MINI (not classic mini) & was wondering what sort of money I should charge (ballpark) & if they need to be cut from a template or are they just straight rectangles of vinyl like viper stripes?
Have fitted viper stripes to vehicles before & know they can be a pain, but this will be my first MINI.
Any tips would be fab.
Cheers,
G.

To be honest – mini stripes are a doddle to do. Just stick to rectangles.
Price is whatever you think you can get away with and largely depends on the style they go for.
Worst ones are really wide right down the mid-line, easiest are thin stripes…anywhere.
I can literally be anywhere from £60 and using 10″ of vinyl for a 15minute job (bonnet only) upwards…easier than doing a sunstrip if they are about 10″ wide. Might take several hours if a full bodykit, roof & aerial, boot & spoilers to contend with if going full front to rear.

They should really have a shape to them. Phil Craddock will no doubt explain 🙂

Thanks again David. Can’t reply to PM’s as I’m a cheapskate, but much appreciated!

the ones supplied by bmw have a taper and a shape to them,
you can get away with just a parrallel oblong, but they dont look as good when fitted.
I have a template if you need itPeter

cheers Jon.
Not all MINI bonnet stripes are the same and they are not straight either.
It also depends on what model and year you have as there are 2 generations and they all differ.
I cut and fit from £40+VAT upwards depending on the vinyl color required and printed/laminated with a contrast edge are more £££.
FYI the types are:
2001-2006 R50 Cooper/One/Diesel (hatch and cab)
2001-2006 R53 Cooper S (hatch and cab)
2007-2010 R56 One/Cooper
2007-2010 R56 Cooper Diesel (turbo)
2007-2010 R56 Cooper S (turbo)
2007-2010 R55 Clubman One/Cooper
2007-2010 R55 Clubman Diesel (turbo)
2007-2010 R55 Clubman Cooper S (turbo)
2007-2010 R57 Cab One/Cooper
2007-2010 R57 Cab Cooper S (turbo)‘phew ! you can use the same 07-10 stripes for One/Cooper on the R55 and R57 as with the R56 Cooper S and Cab.
Any more info just give me a buzz 😉

I usually fit the simple parallel stripes as I do not have the shaped template and the look ok, I might send a PM to peter to see if he would be kind enough to send me the shaped template 🙂
-
my customers demand that they are exact as MINI intended so parallel wont do – only the new 2007-2011 MINI ONE/Cooper/Diesel have parallel stripes all others are shaped and Cooper S are longer !

Whereas my customers don’t want them too look like a standard BMW supplied set…they prefer something ‘custom’.
Horses for courses as they say…

quote Phil Craddock:totally agree as I do 100’s of custom bonnet stripes even for MINI dealers as attached …
Very nice job.

@Phil-Caddock
Hi Phil,
I just stumbled across this old post & am just wondering if by any chance you might have a vector file of the bonnet stripes for a 2013 Mini One D?

I have the 2009 version, which might be OK for a 2013 model. If you let me know your email address, I’ll send them over.
-
Hi Jamie,
Would you please be able to send the file to me too?

If you let me know your email address, I’ll send what I have.
