Is it me…well probably…no, I mean that bloomin HSBC bank logo…

Maybe it’s just my time or something, maybe the old eyes are shot and the minds going but nearly every time I see the logo for HSBC bank it looks like the ‘S’ is a little larger than the ‘H’ and the ‘B’ – yeah I know that’s how ’rounded’ letters are supposed to be – no, it’s that damn ‘C’ – it’s being reproduced at the same height as the ‘H’ and ‘B’, I know it is – is anyone else seeing the same or should I get myself one of those nice jackets – the ones with the shiny buckles down the front!

If this is the case – I wonder why, is it designers again? or are they testing us!!

    watch the skies!

Funny you should say that mike.
I was called to a job the other day. "Urgent" they said.
In I went to this big firm in the centre of Glasgow to be welcomed by a short guy getting out a Mercedes. He said thank god your here. I just got delivery of 4 new lorries & the sign guy has made a meal of it. I turned and looked at these huge big trucks with writing along the side.
I looked again. & Again. I said eh exactly what?s up with them. He said the letters are all up & down. Can you do it again for me i am not calling the firm that did this.
I nodded and said I see what you mean (but I didn?t) he said. "I mean look at it son the "S" is bigger than the "A" and the "C" is bigger than that "T" I mean how did he think he was going to get away with that.
I looked at him and thought "for feck sake! The lights are all on, but there?s nobody in"
Walking away I said leave it with me ill do the 4 by tomorrow. Next day I returned with all the text same size. Looked awful but he got what he wanted. "Fool"
I know this does not answer your problem but thought you would appreciate the story 🙂

I’ve had similar problems in the past from a certain type of customer. I usually try to find some printed material, like a well known & respected paper or magazine with oh i swore !les and headlines, and draw parallel lines on the paper to show how the curved letters are slightly bigger than the rest, saying that it looks "correct". Then we printed out the same headline but reduced the size of the curved lettering…..to be honest , you can make the curved ones ever so slightly smaller! Then show the customer the two and explain it away as an optical illustion, telling them that if they want some letters manufacture smaller than their intended size, the visual effect will not be guaranteed, getting them to sign a waiver, so if they don’t like the smaller letters, THEY’LL have to pay again for the replacements. Does this make any sense:-)

I dunno how "oh I swore" got into my message but I just checked back in the browser and it wasn’t there when I submitted the message.Spooky, eh Rob!

it’s the censoring guardian on this and other websites joe…

it reads the word as t i t and then ‘led’ so it replaces the first piece with ‘oh I swore’ – i tried to use exactly the same word recently and hit his problem…

    …is it AI or is it a paint in the a r s e ?
