  • Grass, Lawn Sign stake/spike supplier needed, please?

    Afternoon everyone

I need some blank signs that stick into the ground so I can fit some ACM or foam board onto, nothing too big.

I’ve never dealt with these kinds of signs before although I’ve found a couple from Sign geer on my initial search.

Has anyone used these or know of any others?

    Thanks

    Hi Dan

The first port of call for a supplier of these would be Grafityp. They have sold these for as long as I can remember.
    https://www.grafityp.co.uk

To be honest, I have seen various different types over the years. some vacuum-formed PVC with wire spikes, some completely plastic.
They are very lightweight and basically pushed into the ground or pressed in using your foot.
They are pretty cheap for a reason!

We don’t really use this type of thing but we have been asked for them for golf sponsor type events and I just made up our own from off-cuts of aluminium angle and composite.

Basically, you cut some short lengths of Aluminium angle and mitre one end so that it acts as a spike/legs.
then just rivet a bit of composite through the face into the legs. that’s it!!
you just push them down into the soil. because its angle, if the soil is a bit firm, you can chap the angle at the top with a hammer and it will push it down easily.

These are sturdier and probably more durable than a bit of correx or foamex popped into these plastic frames. you also get to use up any scraps of angle you might have in the workshop. you also have the option of the sign dimension you want to make them. again, this allows you to use up off-cuts of composite or hoarding board.

however, if you want to create a foot rest for pushing them in. just rivet a crossbar between the legs.

the illustrations i have done show the legs wide. you can have them closer, obviously.

Thanks rob, I’ll take a look but your option seems easy enough and more durable.

we got asked for these last year and gave the customer some wooden batons that he hammered into the grass and screwed the composite signs onto. i think the angle riveted on is a much better idea and would have been more professional looking for us to hand over to the customer as a complete sign. nice one!

MDP also do them for Correx, but I’d say you could put ACM in them:

MDP, I knew there was another source other than Grafityp for these, but could I remember?! 🤣 😀
