How are people cutting large rectangles of vinyl?

We do a large number of wall prints, which are printed roll to roll, matt laminated then need trimming square, as they tend to all have overlaps, as in we are doing walls that are 5m x 2.4m in 4 or 5 drops, so other than cutting straight lengths by hand, what else are people using for this other than using a flatbed is there a trick I am missing?

It really depends on the volume of this type of work, which will dictate the cost-effective options for you.

    1. A cheap option is to make yourself a decent straight edge slightly bigger than the largest panel you typically cut.
    2. There are several glorified straight edge options, and by that, I am not knocking them! they do a great job and speed up accuracy and save fingertips! Multiple brands do these straight-edge trimmers or table-mounted trimmers such as the ones shown below by Keenkut.
    3. When it comes to large volume and you want it automated. Then the likes of the Fotoba X-Y roll-to-roll cutters are hard to beat. See video below.
    4. more expensive again, you move to the likes of Zund, Esko, Summa etc large format flatbed tables, but as much as they are much more expensive, they do so much more, other than just trimming straight lines of vinyl.

Thanks for that – interesting options, we currently have the keencut 3m and use that, but it has some wobble in the head so isn’t 100% accurate.

I want to get flatbed cutter, but won’t have the space for another 14months, but will probably go that way when I get a flatbed printer too.

But will look into those other XY cutters, as that seems to be a lot of what we are doing at the moment.
