  • Zund s3 problems when graphics feed – help required please?

Posted by Alex Fernihough on October 19, 2012 at 12:52 pm

Hi sorry if this is in the wrong section but hopefully it will get noticed and moved if it is.

I currently own a brand new zund s3 xl1200 when cutting graphics that are totally on the bed we dont have a single issue however when a rollable graphic is longer than the bed itself and the machine needs to feed the graphics forward the final result has a noticeable step where the two halves of the cut meet.

the print and cut files are generated in onyx so there are quite a few registration dots on the file.

anyone experienced anything similar and has any suggestions for a fix please let me know.

    thanks

    Hi Alex

I think it’s probably the machine…..let me know where you are and I’ll take it off your hands and won’t charge you a penny….. 😀

you might be asking it to do too much

sorry I should have explained a little further we print graphics that are 2270mm long by 800mm wide we are only asking it to cut this rectangle graphic out nothing too fancy, it’s the two edges that dont meet up when they are joined together.

well i understand what you are saying, if I said a cutting plotter would also struggle too, as it goes around it will sometimes go out a mm, however if you got many registration points then the cutter will correct it’s path, its not perfect but for 2.2mtr should be ok as long as the roller grip is good.

I have also another plotter that watches the edge of the material, not in newer machines which means it can actually cut a perfect rectangle of that size but has not print/cut capabilities.

My CNC would do it as it is 2x4mtr but results are nowhere near as good as a zund. Your problem basically is your table, it wasn’t long enough, perhaps rotating the image by 25-40 degrees to make it fit the table better, but not good for material usage but you may have to work a system out where you just setup one by one and then get the machine to find your materials.

I would think your best bet would be to ring zund uk and talk to one of their technicians about the problem. They are always very helpful and very knowledgable.
Your S3 should be able to handle much longer material than that without any problem with alignment. We regularly cut 10-20m length vinyl in much more complicated shapes without any problem on our older zund. Could be whatever feeder mechinism you have feeding it forward (clamps etc) needs adjusting.

Did you ever get to the bottom of / resolve this issue? This is exactly the reason we’re debating if a table of that length is a good idea.
