Corel X3 doesn’t work on vista/win7 and a lot of my sign software doesn’t work either 🙁

I’ve just upgraded 4 of my computers to 64bit quad cores under vista/win7 and just about nothing that I use daily works as it is all older software . 🙁 I need to update everything unfortunately, so I have got my two older machines running X3 and Signwizard until I can afford to upgrade the software. All my newer software flys though 🙂

I’m considering upgrading my laptop to Windows 7. It runs Vista and I’m not a huge fan. 7 is supposed to be considerably better. I don’t run any sign software on that so that’s not a problem.

Anyone got it yet? Would love to know what it’s like.

I don’t go anywhere near a new OS for at least a year. Let’s face it Service Pack 1 will be out in a month or so after the gullible upgraders have done some costly testing for MS.

with 8 million beta testers for the last year, I think the headaches will be minor. They can’t afford a debacle like vista again, so hopefully they have got this one right.

I know several Microsoft technicians who have been beta testers for 12 months and they reckon they have got it right in the last few months.

The whole worldwide win 7 program has been headed by a woman who seems pretty switched on and is keen to prove herself in a male dominated world at microsoft.

My quad core 64bit vista runs x3 and all of my other sign stuff??

well that’s what I think – they don’t want a rerun of Vista! I know it’s been tested for a while and by all accounts it’s way ahead of vista with far fewer problems

Really? Mine hangs when loading it, and the box doesn’t say it is Vista compatible 🙁

Richard just tried to download it 2 more times and it hung, but tried 1 more time after your post and it worked this time. I may have a sus dvd drive I think.

I have windows 7, running flexisign and photoshop, which i originally had on vista, i haven’t noticed any problems.

The whole operating system seems to run pretty smoothly and it was easy to upgrade.

I have windows 7 on my work computer and vista on my laptop, i barely seem to notice the difference.

You get a new handy little tabs feature along the bottom of your screen, which previews all the windows of every program you have running separately in 7, i do miss that when i go back to vista, but that’s about it. That’s only because i run so many different programs at once and now i can preview each file in each program i have open and choose the one i want quickly.

I also had a new printer that never seemed to work properly on vista and windows 7 sorted that out somehow.

But to be honest, it’s not much of a change for me, but i am not that fussy about operating systems so i don’t really know why i wrote this message 🙄

Peter, I run Signwizard 5.1, and I’m pretty sure I have to upgrade to v6 to get it to run on Vista. Problem is it has such a huge price tag for me to upgrade, and it has features I’d never use, so its cheaper for me to keep an old winxp unit just for the computer cut stuff. 😕

yip me to phil signlab 4.1 works perfectly well…ill always be able to get an old comp with 98 in it if something gos wrong and i notice one of the new grapftec plotters is 98 compatible 😀

Phill, not really a case of if it ain’t broke, more a case of not having the cash to upgrade to Flexi for me.

I run a desktop with windows 98SE and have a laptop set up the same because the software I use ( Inspire Pro) won’t run on a newer operating system. As I don’t do any printing it doesn’t really cause me any real problems.

Sometimes wish they would run a bit quicker but they are at the limit of what I can do as far as upgrading goes. If I ever get into printing then I will be OK as far as machines go because I have newer desktops and laptops but I would have to invest in software which I don’t currently have.

Brian, Vista was a bit of a disaster for Microsoft, windows 7 has been brought out basically to replace vista and there shouldn’t be any problems for people as far as software goes but how many times have you heard that !! :lol1:

Corel X3 does work with Vista 32bit… as its been on my laptop
I think you need to install Service Pack 2 to make it work correctly, not sure.

Win7, i not ordered it… dont see the point.

I don’t see how people can hate vista.

I run it on 2 pcs and my laptop.

It runs all the following to:
sign lab 8.1
photoshop cs4
illustrator
corel x4
versaworks
Touch word I’ve never had no problems, I also have them linked up as a network via a netgear box.

I wont be upgrading to 7.

I’m updating my kit in the new year, last time I updated I avoided Vista and kept with XP Pro which has served me well, this time I will go with Windows 7 and I’m quite looking forward to it. Whether I retain my hair after the experience remains to be seen.

Actually I have read that if you get the Pro version of 7 you can install XP inside of it. I guess they call it "XP Mode". It’s for software that just won’t run in 7. Anyway, my two bits.

I’ve just had to get a new system for work. I purchased a new one from dell with Windows Professional 7 on. A bit concerned at first, but been working a week with it now running Signlab 8 and also Roland Versaworks and everythings fine. Just one problem with the Nvidia grahics card which doesn’t like Signlab when you import bitmaps, jpegs etc. So a change to a ATI Firepro has been an solution to sort this problem out or turn off Aero mode on windows 7.
Alot quicker than xp pro which ive used for ages.

i bought a new laptop in nov with win7 on it, at first i thought mmm but after using it over a few weeks i loved it, much better and faster than xp pro iv used for years, so iv now updated the desktop to windows ultimate 7 and soooo much better than xp pro and you can buy win7 for more or less the same price as xp pro ! on installing win7 it auto downloads and installs all the latest drivers for everything on your pc harware wise, including your mother board/sound/gfx card/printers the lot so when win7 starts for the 1st time everything is up and running no faffing around installing drivers after you install the operating system 🙂 the only thing to bear in mind with win7 is its resource hungry ! very hungry infact ! mine uses 850mb of ram with nothing running lol, so a upgrade may be the best way to get it running right, but is way way better than xp and vista.
