why does my window tinting application look unsightly?
Any tinters out there ever had dealings with the new M3, Ive Had the rear screen done twice now and it seems like the film just wont go down at the top edge of the screen because of the printed on black dots which leaves it looking unsightly………

Nup Not the M3 but, I do know what you’re talking about. The Honda Integra has a similar problem.
What’s happening could be a few things.
1. the film’s glue is faulty and not sticky enough.
2. the wrong type of film is being used i.e house film instead of pressure sensitive car film ( which brings us back to 1).
3. the film has been heat shrunk too much and hasn’t conformed to the screen shape.The most likely cause though is that the dot matrix is sitting too high not allowing the film to sit flat to the glass. This gives a silvery “bubble” around the dots…much like trying to apply vinyl over rivets. It just won’t sit down all the way.
Film manufacturers do make dot cleaning solutions that etch the dots making it easier for the film to sit on. These sometimes pick up a “greasy” film which doesn’t allow the film to sit.
If it’s the silvery look around the dots that’s bothering you I’d say there’s not much you can do about it.
It’s easier o have a shot if I or of course Henry can see it. Post a pic of the rear screen showing the problem.

the guy was using johnston window films, vehicle stuff, first it was done using a metalised film which played havoc with the sat nav, then its been redone twice since then and as you say its the silvery effect up on the top inch of the glass…..pain in the butt !!!!!!!

Our Supplier has just changed over to Johnson films, and one of their selling points was how good Johnson films sit on the dot matrix! Better glue and conforming.
I have had similar problems getting enough pressure on the lower edges of Audi A4 sedan, check out what Leeroy says about over shrinking on the edges etc and that the matrix is really really clean, otherwise you might just have to live with it.

Sell it…you didnt think i had a new M3 did you…ha ha ha ha im a sign maker, i drive a mk 2 golf..ha ha ha hahhahahah you cant make that sort of cash producing handcrafted bespoke signs mate….them cars are for councill bin men…….ha ha ha ha ha
