Main business is garment decorating and we have Roland BN-20 for print cut side, super quality can’t fault that but bit slow however it set us up in business and if ius workflow organised with embroidery jobs etc it’s still okay but not perfect and this one is over 6 years old so thinking time to replace it or add to it. Do we buy another one new or look at secondhand SP or VP’s or others or look at a new Roland Tuevis SG2 as 300 or 540, these new machines are bit unknown to me so has anyone got either of them and if so what are they like, any issues or details to know about and what they like for garment decorator use in particular, we use ECOSOL max original and performance been great, don’t know what the newer inks are like? If they did a BN 20 on steroids that would be perfect but they don’t. Thanks in advance for any feedback on what route to go.

Define Bn-20 on steroids? I would class a VS or even SP series as a beefed up and drastically faster BN20.

Lots of good machines on market. But my only advice is buy bigger than you need. These machines can do stickers, labels, posters, banners, canvas’s. all easy to do and you might find in the future it can be a good earner or have customers asking.

I have seen though garment film wise that some are suitable for tru-vis ink. Maybe they all are, just some are better than others.

Thanks Chris, just meant the BN20 is good but a bit slow so if they updated some of it’s features like cut and print speed it would make them the instant replacement choice. Yes looked at SP and though they are no longer in production you occasionally you see a little used ones come up for sale, I missed an SP300i the other week with very few hours on it for £3500. Obviously there is risk with used items unless they have been under roland care al the time. Likewise the VP range is a good machine but from what I understand it is obsolete and used to get some motherboard issues that required a replacement of which there are none available now so a used is a risky proposition for use daily. I think the True vis 2 ink is supposed to be okay so a new SG300 or 540 is an option though wanted to know how people found them after owning one. Mimaki offer similar machines though I may fall in the Roland camp having found them quite good and helpful with support.
