Hi John as I said on the phone I have been running 64 bit vista for some time now.
    Quad core 9550 2.20ghz
    4 gb of ram
    windows score 5.7

    I have installed the following

    Corel x3
    flexisign 7.0 v 2
    Signlab for versaworks
    Adobe master collection cs3
    along with many others

in all the time I have only had one problem with a Lexmark printer in which there are no 64bit drivers although this was some time ago and would guess there is one now

I believe you wont get much benefit from a dual core cpu or compatible applications if you don’t have a 64 bit operating system.
I think there’s only a couple of quid difference in price between the two anyway…(if you’re building yourself or having made bespoke)

    Hi there,
we have both 64 and 32 bit computers custom built. I have noticed a few compatibility issues with the 64 bit, such as printer errors, but these actually went away when we upgraded that system to windows 7.

I am running flexisign and photoshop on windows 7 and haven’t noticed a problem yet.

I have to say i do not notice too much difference between the dual core 32 bit pc and the quad core 64 bit pc in that they both do everything fast enough for me.

    Hi All

Is it correct that you have to be 64 bit OS to use more than 4Gb RAM??

    Cheers

I think its due for release late October but the Release Candidate has been about for a while. From what I understand the business version will run any programme that is ok in Vista, home versions I’m not sure about.

Yes the release candidate version has been around for a while (available to download), you can no longer get it and would have to wait for the October full release i believe.

If you buy a pc now i think you get some kind of voucher to upgrade to windows 7 once it’s released, but i suppose it’s only a month so you may as well wait.

    Hi Macky
I used to be a developer for MS and automatically got the blue-Badge version of Win7 18 months ago this was the in-house version of Win7 and I have to say that it’s been pretty faultless from day one,
The only Issue I have had is the MS VX100 video-live-cam didn’t work until recently, Which is a bit rubbish considering it’s a Microsoft camera. Ironic or what.
Anyway yes 64 bit can handle just about any size of memory that your machine can take,
I have a main system that’s running 2 lots of 32Gb memory, Don’t ask! It was expensive and i was just showing off.

most 32bt wiin7 and XP systems today will only be able to handle 3.5GB or their abouts,
It also depends on system resources ie video, sound, memory, allocation,
also having the latest service pack can affect how any system will run, as any new updates usually free up resources.
I’m currently running on my 5 systems win7 32bt on 4 of them and the fifth is running win7 64bt their are some driver issues on the 64bt side of things but this is because I’m still running some old third party crap. no issues what so ever on win7 32bt with flexi 8.1 artcut, signlab, The only real issue I have is it all runs so dam well I know that when it bu$$ers up it’s going to do it big time….

I run 64 bit and had no problems until i changed printer from a Grenadier to a Mimaki, Rasterlink that is supplied with Mimaki will not run under 64 bit, other than that i have found no problems with 64 bit and it does appear to run slightly faster.

    Regards

    Russell.
