  • What’s people’s thoughts on 3rd party inks?

Hi, Just wondering what peoples / experiences are with 3rd party inks. The reason I ask is we’ve been running Nazdar inks in our Roland XR640 for the last couple of years and in that time its had 4 heads and 11 dampers fitted. We bought the machine 2nd hand and when we got it our supplier fitted 2 heads and 8 dampers to it then. Approx 12 months later we had to get 2 heads and 2 dampers fitted, last month a light cyan damper fitted, and now our cyan keeps dropping out so looks like another damper needed! In a similar time our EJ640 had head A replaced last year, head B replaced in Feb, and now needs head B replaced again!!! That been said its only been using the Nazdar inks for a few months. I know occasionally there’ll be a head strike although nothing serious but is this normal for heads to go this quick? At close to £2000 to have an engineer out and a head fitted it’s becoming unbearable. The only thing in common is the inks been used? Our supplier has just admitted that there may be an issue with the viscosity of the cyan they’ve supplied to us and the damper may not be the problem after all! Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    David

We’ve tried various 3rd party ink in our Mimakis over the years, and have had problems with all of them. Blocked nozzles, complete ink channels dropping out, dampers replaced, and in 2 cases, head replacements were required. Once we swapped back to OEM ink, none of these problems re-occurred.

I know that you will get some replies saying that people have been running 3rd party for years with no problems. Well, if that’s the case, then they have been lucky, because one day, it will happen.

Not worth the risk in my opinion. Stick to OEM, and increase prices slightly to compensate.

After costing us £2500+ to have a machine fixed due to 3rd party ink, we’ve only used genuine inks for years now.

3rd party ink will void manufactures warranty, some suppliers will offer a limited warranty, but….. its was worthless when we tried to claim.

Weve been using Jetbest inks in our Roland SP 540V since the warranty ran out. The machine is getting on a bit, but we have had no problems at all – They are two thirds of the price of the originals. Whats not to like?

Well that’s both our XR640 & EJ640 back on genuine inks again. Only time will tell if it fixes our problems with faulty heads. Our supplier has admitted there may be a problem with the inks the supplied us with!!! 🙁
