  • What sign board/backing to use?

    Hi All,

I’m currently quoting for a job for a 500×170 factory sign, with halo lit 40cm high stainless steel letters.

I’m just trying to sort what backing tray would be most suitable to mount them on, I’m hoping/thinking/assuming 3mm dibond would be more than sufficient.

    Any other thoughts?

    Matt

If it were me I would be speaking to the company that are supplying the letters, for a start how many letters & what size are the returns ? At 400mm high with lighting & clear backing plate there could be quite a bit of weight in each letter.
Not sure ACM will take the sort of weight you could be talking about, especially at that sort of size 😆

Personally, if it’s 5000mm x 1750mm I would use aluminium. As you would need 2 sheets to manufacture it, it would need a suitable joining strip to keep the panels straight. Also with ali you have the added strength of folded returns. I would also use 3mm ali, you can use 2mm, it’s just what I would recommend
