We have got a mug press and flat press.
The thing with subing mugs, it`s a very slow process, you have to print out the transfer, then put it on the mug, then cook it in the mug press. Cooking in the press will take anywhere from 2-3 minutes. So to do 10 mugs will take you 30 minutes easy.
On the plus side, you can do just 1 item. This is where the market is, low numbers. As mug screen printers will have a minimum order of 100.
You can go for the photo onto a mug/tile route. Or find another market for them. I put cars onto them, red dragon puts a similar thing on hers.
I`ve toyed with the idea of horses/cats etc. A subject very close to the hearts of a lot of people.
What I feel you have to do, is to think of a subject ie horses. Do a bit of research on it. Do they have outdoor events/clubs etc. Then get some images and put them on the mugs. Go to the shows, mail shot the clubs, etc. People will pay a premium to have a personised item.
If you have an intrest, see how you can adapt this intrest.
A web site, reaches millions of people. You can have a couple of pages made for very little money. Then just e-mail the site to various groups.
Once you start thinking of ways of marketing your product, the ideas come thick and fast. Don`t be put off if one of your ideas fails, you can`t win all the time.
ps. the flat heatpress, will make you loads, doing low volume garments.
