  • Waste Disposal, how do you manage?

    Hi Guys

We currently have our local services empty our wheely bins once a week, we have 2 large bins but these are always full and about 10 smaller bins full as well which the guys are great and always take all our rubbish which is a lot. Worse part is the days leading up to the collection we have loads of waste lying around and doesn’t look great and takes up space.

As you know our waste is bulky and not heavy, backing paper and vinyl offcuts etc etc and some offset board materials etc.

So how do you manage your waste if space is an issue, we will soon have a lot less space to play with so thinking of a compactor/baler machine but is it worthwhile or any good? Does anybody use one or what do you currently do to manage it on a weekly basis?

    Many thanks

    Warren

I can regularly be seen jumping up and down in the bins to make more room …. it’s a problem for us too. We try to re use cardboard, bubble wrap etc purely just to save clogging the bins but we are now over run with it

I’m much the same as Gary above, often jumpring up and down, despite increasing the size of our general waste bin.

I use a private company who charge about £12 for the big bin and a few quid for the cardboard – they’ll always take extra if I’m here to drag it out when they arrive. At any timne I can request an extra empty and the truck will stop when passing at the first opportunity.

We use kiwi wool sacks – strong flexible waterproof woven square bags of a cubic meter, that hang in a metal frame on wheels.
When they are full we drag them round the back of the shop and close them with special clips.
Once we have five or six filled we hire a trailer and take them to the dump, shake them out and bring them back to the shop for reuse.
We have tried using commercial waste companies, but the receptacles they provide are useless and they are generally more expensive for us than doing it ourselves.
As Warren already pointed out, signwriting waste is lightweight…if you keep it dry.

We bag everything in large industrial bin bags (vinyl, backing sheet), we have a waste transfer licence (FOC if its your own waste) we then take it to a local skip / waste site (not land fill) they weigh us and charge accordingly, we usually do 2 runs, LW Crafter van full to the brim costs us about £70.00 a time thats usually 1/2 tonne per run as it goes off weight, as we know there is not alot of weight its just bulky, to do 2 van loads usually is equal to 4 skips at £140 per skip.

We use a man with a trailer £50 a load, fits about 40-50 bin bags. Cardboard we have collected free from a recycling company (think we pay a small charge for the collection cage- which we dont use cos its too small.)
