  • Vinyl rolls keep falling off of the rollers and getting ruined.

    Hi guys
I have a Graphtec 5100-75 which has the metal rollers at the rear to hold your roll of vinyl. I am losing my patience at the moment as every time I am cutting the plotter moves the vinyl back and forth and in doing so the whole of the roll unravels and ends up scrunched on the floor ruined. What am I doing wrong. This has only started to happen recently as I have got busier I am buying longer rolls. Could it be a weight issue.
    Many thanks in advance.
    Iain.

The vinyl should sit between the two rolls – not on the front roll only (as seen in your picture).

Sorry should have said that photo was to show the rear set up, but that is normally where the empty roll ends up.
As the vinyl goes back and forth the rollers pick up speed and unravel the whole roll and as there is a piece of tape holding the end of the vinyl to the tube it pulls it off and the empty roll either falls of or sits there.

Some machines have a device with a felt pad that sits on top of the rolls to create a bit of friction to slow the rolls down. Assuming you don’t have anything like that you could try running the machine slightly slower to prevent the momentum from building up in the heavier vinyl rolls you are now using

    Slow it down.

We have 50m logs on our graphtec no problem, but run it about 20-30cm/m if its too high you’ll get a motor error ocassionaly as its not got enough ooomph to pull the roll. I tend to unravel about 500mm so its nice and slack.

The media basket also helps to keep it all running smooth.

I’ve got a 5100 and found that I Had that problem I put some stuck some felt under one of my rollers to slow it slightly and solved the problem instantly, worked for me, think trial and error
