  • Vinyl Master Pro Software users, advice please?

    Hi,

I’m just looking at a new software to get started with my Liyu TC cutter. It’s currently a side project that I’m looking to push and will upgrade the cutter if all goes well. Liyu represented low risk which so far I can have no complains about its cut very well indeed.

I’m stuck for which software to use. Some great people on these forums have already given me lots of advice and after doing some research it seems vinylmaster pro v4 represents fantastic value for a cut and design software?

I will only be doing cutting, any digital printing will be outsourced to a local firm.

If vinylmaster isn’t sufficient for digital print perhaps I could use an older version of Corel to do graphic designs for when I outsource

But if vinylmaster pro is more than good enough for what I need then I think I’ll go for it.

Just wanted a last minute vote on confidence from some vinylmaster users that’s all [emoji51]

    Thanks guys in advance

I have used Vinyl master for a good number of years, and is good for both printing and cutting, from the printing side I export out as a PDF and send to versa works or third party printers. The whole software package is very intuitive and the vectorising process is a complete delight to use, there are plenty of tutorial videos to help you get started. The only issue is doing a contour cut in versa works, you have to export to Corel draw to use the contour cut feature and export as a tiff into versa works as the contour cut feature within vinyl master does not use the same 100% magenta colour required in versa works, and there is no way to change the colour required within vinyl master , but that is the only issue I have ever had with vinyl master.

Thank you very much for your response Graham.

Can I ask which version of vinylmaster it is that you use?

I’m stuck between going for the Pro with a view to upgrading of the venture takes off and going all out for the XPT.

Pro is around £260 with the XPT maybe £560 (Amazon)

    Ah ok brilliant thanks.

Sorry to keep asking but I’m literally hovering my finger over the confirm purchase button and I’m stuck between PRO & DSR do you have any idea on the key differences between them?

The Main difference is that there is no in built Rip in the dsr version

Ah ok. As I don’t directly digitally print I’m guessing the DSR version would be perfectly fine. The XPT version wouldn’t be necessary for me I’m guessing

There are a few more subtle differences

I run V4 xpt same as Graham & haven’t ever had a problem with it, if you are not sure what version to purchase then you could always download the trial versions of those you are considering & test it for yourself 😆
Can’t remember if there is a comparison page for the different versions but would imagine there is, the tutorials as Graham has already said are well made & easy to follow 😆

    Ah ok guys thanks

So, forgive me for being naive but RIP (raster image processor) is a feature I shouldn’t really need as I don’t do direct digital printing and any I do will be outsourced.

Which for basic vinyl cutting and art work the DSR version should suffice?

OK if you only want something for very BASIC vinyl work then the LTR version will do you, to my mind not a particularly good investment as very basic is all it will ever do & this WILL cause you problems very early on as it is going to severely limit what you are able to do.

If I were you then I would buy the DSR version, this will allow you to do just about anything you need to do straight away & you may never need to upgrade it or change your software again.
Just so you understand the RIP is the part that actually allows you to print yourself if you do your own inhouse printing, since you are going to be using a trade service then you don’t actually need the RIP.

You do however need to be able to prepare artwork to send to the trade printer unless you are expecting them to do all the design work for you as well which will be expensive 😆
The DSR version will allow you to produce print ready artwork without the need for other software, if it’s within your budget then don’t muck about with the lower versions which could in the future cost a lot more to upgrade.
That way it doesn’t matter what the next customer asks for you will be capable of producing it 😆 😆

Everyone on here has been so helpful.

But Martin your last post was exactly what I was looking for and with my indecisive brain atm that’s exactly what I needed.

I was probably getting the DSR I just needed someone to break it down for me thank you very much.

£400 for DSR 4.0 seems good.

Think I’m going to order it right now!

We have the vinyl master XPT V4.0 for about 3 years now for us its great for design and scanning things.
But I must admit I still use an old omega for cutting just need to convert it to AI and send it over for the omega to cut it.
